New Havan unit in Garibaldi boosts the economy of Serra Gaúcha, expands the retailer’s presence in Southern Brazil, and accelerates an ambitious plan to reach 200 megastores by the end of 2026
Havan will further expand its presence in Rio Grande do Sul with the opening of a new megastore in Garibaldi, a city in Serra Gaúcha with about 34,000 inhabitants. The unit, built along the BR-470, received an investment of R$ 90 million, is expected to have a strong regional economic impact, and already has a confirmed opening date: June 6, 2026, at 10 am. According to information released by the portal ND Mais, businessman Luciano Hang will personally attend the inauguration of the network’s 193rd branch in Brazil.
The retailer’s arrival in the city comes at a strategic moment for the company, which will celebrate 40 years of operation in 2026 and is accelerating an aggressive national expansion plan. Furthermore, the new operation promises to transform the commercial landscape of the region by creating 200 direct jobs and increasing the economic flow between Garibaldi and Bento Gonçalves.
The future unit also reinforces Havan’s advancement in the South of the country, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, a state that already hosts dozens of the brand’s operations. As published by ND Mais, this will be the company’s 22nd megastore in the state.

Havan megastore in Garibaldi will have 10,000 square meters and more than 350,000 products

The new Havan structure in Garibaldi stands out for its size and strategic location. Built near the border with Bento Gonçalves, along the BR-470, the unit will have about 10,000 square meters of total area.
The space will feature free parking, diverse sectors, and approximately 350,000 items available for consumers. Among the visual highlights of the new store is the traditional Statue of Liberty, a trademark of the retail chain throughout Brazil.
In addition to the commercial impact, the opening is expected to significantly increase the flow of visitors in the region, considered one of the main tourist and economic hubs of Serra Gaúcha.
In a statement released by the company, Luciano Hang highlighted the brand’s historical relationship with Rio Grande do Sul.
“In these four decades, we have expanded throughout almost all of Brazil, and Rio Grande do Sul has always welcomed us with open arms,” said the businessman.
The movement also follows a trend observed in the national retail sector, where large chains seek strategic cities outside major urban centers to expand the market and strengthen regional operations.
Million-dollar investment strengthens local economy and creates 200 new jobs

The construction of the new megastore represents one of the largest recent private investments in the Garibaldi region. In total, R$ 90 million were invested in the project, a value that includes structural works, logistics, equipment, and operational preparation.
Additionally, the opening of the unit created 200 new direct job opportunities, boosting the local job market and expanding opportunities for residents of Serra Gaúcha.
Retail sector specialists point out that large commercial enterprises tend to cause significant indirect effects, including increased consumption, real estate appreciation, and strengthening of surrounding commerce.
Another important factor is the store’s location on a strategic state highway. The BR-470 is considered one of the main logistical corridors in Rio Grande do Sul, connecting industrial, tourist, and agricultural municipalities.
In this sense, the expectation is that the new unit will attract consumers from different cities in the region, further strengthening the local economy.
