With a total investment of R$ 146 million, Niterói is preparing for a new era in the Brazilian naval industry. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended the announcement of the start of the dredging works of the São Lourenço Canal, highlighting the importance of the naval industry for the country’s economy and job creation, according to the Brazil247 website.
The initiative, with investments of R$ 137 million from the Niterói City Hall and R$ 20 million from the Rio de Janeiro Dock Company, aims to expand access to the aquatic infrastructure in the city’s Industrial and Port Complex. The dredging of the section of Guanabara Bay will allow for an increase in the operational function of shipyards, encouraging new ship constructions and the movement of the repair and offshore sectors.
