With Less Than One Thousand Inhabitants, Araguainha Became the Only Municipality in Brazil with 100% of Voters Biometrically Registered, Resulting from an Exemplary Mobilization Among Residents and Electoral Justice to Update All Registrations
Araguainha, 471 km from Cuiabá, reached a historic milestone by becoming the only municipality in Brazil with 100% of voters registered with regularized biometrics. Despite having only 997 residents, the city counts 1,225 people eligible to vote, according to the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-MT).
The result was confirmed last Thursday (9), after the regularization of the electoral status of two residents with domicile in Araguainha, but residing in other cities.
As a result, all voters linked to the municipality now have updated biometric data.

Last Residents Completed the Process
The achievement was made possible thanks to the joint effort between the Electoral Justice and the residents. The last voter to complete the process was Karine Ferreira da Silva.
She had temporarily moved to Mineiros (GO) and now lives in Tesouro, 188 km from Araguainha. Her status was regularized after a change of domicile.
Before her, Vitória Fernandes also completed the registration. Living away, she managed to finish the procedure after returning to the city.
For this, officials from the Electoral Registry of Alto Araguaia traveled 78 km with an exclusive biometric kit to collect her fingerprints.
Small, but with Great Participation
Being the smallest municipality in Mato Grosso, Araguainha ranks among the four smallest in the country in terms of population. Nevertheless, the city stands out for the mobilization and engagement of its voters.
Another municipality in Mato Grosso, Ponte Branca, 502 km from Cuiabá, is close to achieving the same feat. Of the 2,067 voters, only two have yet to complete their registration.
One of them has already promised to go to the registry office, and the other, residing in São Paulo, is in contact with the Electoral Justice to resolve the pending issue.
Biometrics: State Campaign Continues
Currently, Mato Grosso has a biometric coverage of 90.16% — representing 249,197 registered voters. Launched in July, the campaign Biometrics 100% aims to achieve 98% registration in the state by the end of 2025.
Nine municipalities have already reached or surpassed the target: Araguainha, Ponte Branca, Vale de São Domingos, Planalto da Serra, Indiavaí, Ribeirãozinho, Torixoréu, Araguaiana, and Alto Araguaia.
