The Structures Design Program of the Polytechnic School of UFRJ (PPE/Poli-UFRJ) invited civil engineer Nelson Szilard Galgoul to give a lecture at the inaugural class of the professional master’s program this second semester of 2020. Entitled “Installation of Pipelines and Submarine Structures”, the lecture will take place next Monday (10/8) at 3 PM, remotely, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In addition to discussing a bit about the different techniques for installing pipelines, we will also focus on the S-lay, an interesting method for laying rigid pipelines in locations where vessel movement most affects the stresses on the pipelines, and the difficulties of installing submarine structures,” explains Galgoul, who is a former student of Poli-UFRJ and also a retired professor from the Department of Structures at UFRJ.
Graduated in Civil Engineering from UFRJ, with a master’s degree from COPPE and a doctorate from the Technical University of Munich, Galgoul has worked in the Departments of Structures at UFRJ (1974 to 2011) and Civil Engineering at UFF (1987 to 2016), and also at the Technical University of Hamburg, in Germany. He is currently the CEO of NSG Engenharia. He has extensive experience in the field of Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on Metallic Structures notably for fixed offshore platforms, floating structures, and submarine structures.
