The company said that since May, the increase in the consumption of canned beverages led its factories to fully utilize their resources to meet consumer demand. In this case, the new factory will keep pace with the packaging market, which has been expanding over the last three years.

Fauze Villatoro, Commercial Vice President of Ball, said that “This announcement comes at a time when the market demands cans and the new plant will increase our supply by 1.5 billion units per year,” stating that the factory in Minas Gerais will significantly expand production capacity and boost the company’s business in South America.

The new factory is expected to be operational in the last quarter of 2021 and align with the country’s growth expectations in demand in the coming years. Almost all the equipment for the canned production line has been acquired, and many of them are already in Brazil.

The investment in the state of Minas Gerais will be the group’s 11th factory in the country – the 9th dedicated to canned food production. Manaus and Recife also have two facilities specialized in producing lids. In South America, Ball also has factories in Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay, with a 49% market share in the region.

The governor of the state, Romeu Zema, said that “This is great news for us, Minas Gerais residents. We have managed to attract a substantial investment to the state, R$ 504 million. This investment will bring more than 100 new jobs to the city of Frutal.”
