Sefa Inspection on the Tapajós River Found Tax Inconsistencies in a Convoy with 16 Grain Barges, Cargo Valued at R$ 86.1 Million and a Charge of R$ 30 Million in Tax and Fine

The seized soybeans by the State Department of Finance of Pará totaled 43,078.9 tons, valued at R$ 86.1 million, during an inspection carried out on Tuesday (2), on the Tapajós River, near Santarém. The cargo was traveling from Itaituba, in Pará, to Santana, in Amapá, in 16 grain barges.

Inspection Identified Seized Soybeans in 16 Barges on the Tapajós

According to Canal Rural, the action was conducted by state revenue inspectors from Sefa stationed at the Tapajós Transit Goods Control Coordination, in western Pará, Lower Amazon. The convoy was transporting the cargo via the Tapajós River when it was approached.

The operation was supported by the Military Police of Pará. Before the seizure, there was a preliminary survey of the cargo and information exchange with Sefa’s Regional Coordination in Santarém.

Fiscal Documentation Indicated Lack of ICMS Collection

During the analysis of the fiscal documents, Sefa found that the ICMS on the provision of the transport service had not been collected by the state of Pará.

The carrier issued the Electronic Transport Document, CTE, for the state of Amapá. As a result, there was no tax collection for Pará, in an operation characterized at that time as an export to avoid tax incidence.

Lack of Documents Prevented Recognition of Export

The inspection also found inconsistencies in the documentation related to the supposed shipment for export. According to Sefa, essential documents were missing to prove the actual destination of the goods abroad.

Coordinator Roberto Mota stated that there were not enough elements presented to demonstrate the export of the cargo.

He explained that there was only documentation for batch formation, without an invoice to prove the exit of the goods abroad.

Tax and Fine Total R$ 30 Million

To charge tax and fine, two Seizure and Deposit Terms, the TADs, were issued. The total amount reached R$ 30,044,902.59.
