Viral publications associated an old TV Record report with Bolsa Família, but official records, program rules, and AFP fact-checking show that the disclosed amount does not correspond to actual payments
The information that a woman with 22 children receives R$ 15,000 per month from Bolsa Família is false. The claim gained traction on social media after May 23, 2026, when Luciano Huck criticized the income transfer program.
Since then, viral posts with more than 1.3 million views have used a montage to link the case of a large mother to the federal benefit. However, the content mixes artificial intelligence, an old TV Record report, and an interpretation incompatible with official rules.
Viral video uses headline created by artificial intelligence
First, the posts show a supposed news anchor presenting the claim. Then, the video displays a 2015 report about Sebastiana Maria, a resident of São Cristóvão, in the metropolitan area of Aracaju, Sergipe.

However, according to AFP Checamos, the initial headline was generated by artificial intelligence. Additionally, one of the posts on Kwai indicated the use of AI. The original profile also published supposed news with synthetic presenters.
The original TV Record report was about the birth of Sebastiana’s 21st child. However, at no point did the report mention Bolsa Família, social benefits, or a monthly payment of R$ 15,000.
Transparency Portal does not confirm disclosed amount
Additionally, g1 also reported the story of Sebastiana Maria and presented the full name of the interviewee. Later, a search on the Transparency Portal located a person with the same name in the municipality of São Cristóvão.
According to the cited records, this person appears as a beneficiary of the New Bolsa Família. Still, AFP Checamos did not confirm if it is the same woman, as the interviewee’s CPF is not available.
In any case, the located data indicates much lower amounts. In 2026, this beneficiary received about R$ 600 monthly. Additionally, the highest monthly amount ever recorded for this name was R$ 1,436.
Bolsa Família rules make R$ 15,000 incompatible
The claim also does not hold up according to the program rules. In 2015, the year of the report used in viral pieces, the basic benefit of Bolsa Família was R$ 77.
During that period, the family could receive up to five variable benefits of R$ 35. Additionally, it could add up to two benefits linked to teenagers, valued at R$ 42 each.
Therefore, even at the maximum allowed in 2015, the maximum payment reached R$ 336 per family. This amount is far from the R$ 15,000 disclosed on social networks.
Even in the most extreme calculation, the amount doesn’t come close
Since 2023, with the recreation of Bolsa Família replacing Auxílio Brasil, the program pays R$ 142 per family member. Additionally, when the sum does not reach R$ 600, the government supplements the amount.
The program also provides an additional R$ 150 for children from zero to six years old. Additionally, it pays R$ 50 for people between 7 and 18 years old, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Thus, a family of 24 people, consisting of a couple and 22 children, would have a basic benefit of R$ 3,408.
Even in a highly unlikely scenario, with all children under seven years old, a pregnant and nursing mother, the amount would reach R$ 6,808.
Largest official payment in April 2026 was lower
Additionally, a consultation with the Transparency Portal showed that the largest Bolsa Família payment in April 2026 was R$ 3,938. This was the last month available in the cited check.
To receive the benefit, the family needs to prove an income of up to R$ 218 per person. Therefore, the amount of R$ 15,000 does not match the rules, calculations, or official records.
Finally, the Ministry of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Hunger Combat classified the viral claim as fraudulent information, created to manipulate, deceive or confuse.
Thus, the fact-checking shows that the viral publication used content generated by artificial intelligence, took an old report out of context, and disclosed values incompatible with the payments actually provided by the social program. After all, how many false pieces of information can still gain reach before being verified?
