In Interview With CNBC, Kimbal Musk Argued That Elon Deserves Compensation Despite Billion-Dollar Stock Grant Approved by Tesla Board.

Kimbal Musk, Elon Musk’s younger brother, publicly defended the CEO of Tesla in an interview with CNBC.

On the Squawk Box program, he stated that Elon “needs to be paid,” emphasizing that his brother has not received a salary or bonus from the company since 2017.

According to him, the decision should be made by the shareholders: “I think my brother deserves to be paid. I will let the shareholders decide that.”

Stock Grant

Tesla recently announced a provisional grant of 96 million shares to the South African magnate, valued at around US$ 29 billion. This decision was approved by the board on August 3.

However, the package will only be finalized if Elon remains in a key executive position for two years. The measure was considered a relevant incentive but does not correspond to the fixed salary advocated by Kimbal.

Judicial Context

The approval came shortly after a Delaware court struck down the 2018 compensation plan, valued at over US$ 50 billion.

The court pointed out flaws in the approval process and possible harm to shareholders.

This situation increases pressure on the board to seek alternatives that ensure Elon Musk’s continued leadership of the company.

Corporate Governance

Tesla emphasized that neither Elon nor Kimbal participated in the vote on the provisional grant. The decision was solely up to independent directors, reinforcing the company’s commitment to transparency.

Still, Kimbal insists that fair compensation for Elon must be ensured, even if it depends on the final deliberation of the shareholders.

Who Is Kimbal Musk

In addition to being on Tesla’s board, Kimbal Musk is known for his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was involved in the creation of Zip2, sold in 1999, and has established himself in initiatives related to sustainable food.

He founded The Kitchen Restaurant Group, a chain of restaurants that focuses on local products and responsible farming.

Kimbal also co-founded the nonprofit organization Big Green, dedicated to creating educational gardens in schools. His projects include training young agricultural entrepreneurs and controlled farming initiatives in urban areas.

This trajectory reinforces his public image as a businessman linked to food education, sustainability, and the promotion of local supply chains.
