USP, in partnership with Instituto iungo, offers free courses for educators via WhatsApp. There are 500 spots available for two innovative courses, with registrations open until August 18, 2024. Don’t miss the chance to qualify in an accessible and efficient way.
Have you ever imagined transforming your WhatsApp into a classroom? The University of São Paulo (USP), in partnership with Instituto iungo, is making that a reality.
The initiative may seem unusual, but it promises to change the way educators across Brazil qualify themselves, using only an app that everyone already knows. But how does this innovation work? And can it really transform education in the country?
Since 2020, USP and Instituto iungo have been challenging the traditional education model with the ATIVAR! program, which offers free courses for educators directly through WhatsApp.

How The ATIVAR! Program Works
ATIVAR! is aimed at school administrators and high school and elementary teachers from anywhere in Brazil. The program uses WhatsApp as the main platform to access content and participate in weekly virtual meetings with USP tutors. During these one-hour sessions, participants have the chance to interact and exchange experiences with educators from across the country.
There are 500 spots distributed across two main courses: Life Projects and The Good Teacher and New Pedagogical Architectures. Each course has a workload of 40 hours, divided over eight weeks.
To participate, educators must choose a fixed schedule for the virtual meetings, which will take place between September and November 2024. In addition to WhatsApp, other digital tools are used to complement the learning experience.
What You Will Learn In The Courses
New Pedagogical Architectures is a course that challenges educators to revisit and reinvent traditional teaching practices. The proposal is to rethink education, utilizing active methodologies such as Problem-Based and Project-Based Learning (PBL), Design Thinking, and maker culture. These methods place the student at the center of the learning process, transforming them into a co-creator of knowledge.
Life Projects and The Good Teacher, on the other hand, aims to empower educators to support their students in building ethical life projects and conscious citizenship. The course explores the teacher’s role in training engaged and responsible citizens, as well as promoting discussions on what it means to be a good teacher, based on the concepts of Howard Gardner and other scholars.
Details on Schedules and Registrations
Classes for the courses begin on September 1 and run until November 22, 2024. Participants can choose from different schedules during the week for the virtual meetings, which take place in the morning or evening, according to their availability.
Registrations are already open and can be made until August 18, 2024. The courses are entirely free, and at the end, participants receive a certificate issued by USP. Moreover, graduates join a national network of educators, facilitating the exchange of experiences and the creation of new educational projects.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss This Opportunity
Transforming WhatsApp into a learning tool can be the key to democratizing access to quality education. The ATIVAR! program not only offers free training for educators but also proposes a new way of thinking about education, aligned with contemporary needs and available technologies.
