North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-un Made New Threats to the United States and Promised to Increase the Country’s Nuclear Arsenal to a Record Number
The nuclear threats from North Korea have taken on a new chapter with the recent statement from Kim Jong-un, the country’s supreme leader, promising a significant increase in the North Korean nuclear arsenal.
In a speech delivered on the 76th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim stated that the number of nuclear bombs in the country will be “exponentially” expanded, a message that resonates as a clear warning to the United States and its allies.
A Growing Nuclear Stockpile

During the address, Kim emphasized that the country must be prepared to use its nuclear weapons “at any moment” to ensure its security in light of perceived threats.

He stressed that strengthening the nuclear arsenal is a direct response to what he described as “various threats posed by the United States and its followers.”
These statements suggest that North Korea, under Kim’s command, seeks to substantially expand its military capabilities, further heightening the existing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Currently, the exact number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea is uncertain, given the extreme secrecy surrounding the regime. However, estimates suggest that the country may have enough fissile material for the production of up to 50 nuclear bombs.
The actual number of deployed warheads, however, may be significantly lower. So far, the country has conducted six nuclear tests, the latest in 2017, and continues to develop its missile technology, demonstrating that its nuclear program is in full swing.
North Korea and the Global Threat
Kim Jong-un’s speech also raised a warning about what he described as a “serious threat” posed by a nuclear military bloc led by the United States in the region.
This perception of danger seems to justify, in the eyes of the North Korean leader, the need to further increase the country’s firepower while keeping its nuclear forces ready for potential combat.
Although Kim stated that the nuclear bombs in North Korea’s nuclear arsenal are for “self-defense” and do not pose a threat to anyone, the international context is different.
The constant display of military strength and the promise of an exponential increase in nuclear weapons raise significant concern not only in the United States but also among neighboring nations such as South Korea and Japan. Such demonstrations exacerbate the existing tensions on the peninsula and create an atmosphere of uncertainty regarding the future of security in the region.
Diversification of the Nuclear Arsenal
Since the 8th Party Congress in 2021, North Korea has begun to diversify its nuclear weapons, as noted by experts.
Kim Jong-un appears to be focused on expanding the country’s nuclear options, with an emphasis on tactical nuclear weapons, and this trend of diversification was reaffirmed in his recent speech.
Additionally, the country has demonstrated ongoing advancements in missile technology, suggesting that Pyongyang is determined to continue enhancing its military capabilities.
