Naval Orders Armored Boats from DGS Defense Shipyard, Specialist in This Type of Vessel and with a History of Supplying Armed Forces
The 12th edition of the Latin American Defence & Security Fair (LAAD Defence & Security) started last Tuesday (04/02), and the Brazilian Navy is taking advantage of the event to announce the order of two more fast patrol boats with ballistic protection from the Brazilian shipyard DGS Defense.
The vessels will be used to patrol the Bay of All Saints and nearby areas. It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of March this year, the Navy began operations with a boat of this type at the Port of Santos.
The contract with the DGS Defense shipyard, a specialist in this type of vessel, will be signed by the Commander of the 2nd Naval District (Com2ºDN), Vice Admiral Marcelo Francisco Campos.

The fast boats, in addition to the Bay of All Saints, will be able to patrol inland waters and combat cross-border and environmental crimes in the jurisdiction area of the 2nd Naval District Command, which comprises the states of Bahia, Sergipe, and part of Minas Gerais.
The estimate is that the boats will be ready 240 days from the date of signing the contract, and according to Admiral Campos, the vessels “will facilitate operations more efficiently, which will allow society to have better services in the area of security.”
The Best Project
Since the jurisdiction area of Com2ºDN consists of shallow waters, the presence of deep areas, and mainly rocks, the Hybrid Rigid Tubular Vessels (ETRH) built by the Brazilian company were considered the most suitable.
The vessels have a shallow draft and reinforced hull, providing superior resistance to impacts, and are also resistant to mechanical shock, hull fouling, maintenance needs, and have a longer warranty period and greater durability.
Another major advantage of the boats is that the armor of the vessels is part of their design and is not a mere adaptation, in addition to the shipyard having authorization from the Brazilian Army to engage in armor activities.
