MEI Gains The Right To ANTICIPATE Their Retirement; Find Out How

If you are a MEI and are always up to date with the DAS payment, you can celebrate! Now, Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) have the right to anticipate their retirement in specific cases, such as accidents or work-related illnesses. This means more security and peace of mind for those who venture alone. But how does this anticipation work and what are the requirements? I will tell you everything in the next paragraphs.

The monthly DAS payment, that Document of Collection of the Simples Nacional, is more than just a fiscal obligation for the MEI. It is this contribution, which includes 5% of the minimum wage directed to the INSS, that allows the Individual Microentrepreneur to access various benefits from Social Security, including the long-desired retirement.

MEI Retirement: Requirements and Benefits

Like other workers, the MEI needs to meet the traditional requirements to retire. For men, the rule is clear: 65 years of age and 240 months (or 20 years) of contributions to the INSS. For women, retirement comes at 62 years, with 180 months (15 years) of contributions.

MEI Retirement Anticipation: When Is It Possible?

Now comes the interesting part: the possibility of anticipating MEI retirement. If you are a MEI and have suffered an accident or contracted a disease directly related to your activity as an Individual Microentrepreneur, you can retire earlier.

This disability retirement is a right guaranteed as long as the entrepreneur has made at least 12 contributions to the INSS. And there’s more: if the accident or illness is a direct consequence of your work as a MEI, even this 12-contribution waiting period will not be required!

However, it is essential to pay attention to one detail: the MEI who retires due to disability needs to close their company’s CNPJ. Otherwise, they risk losing their retirement benefits. This is a measure to ensure that disability retirement is used correctly and fairly.

Keeping the DAS payment up to date not only guarantees access to regular retirement but also the possibility of disability retirement in case of need.
