Mining industries are crucial in the country's energy transition
In the current global scenario, the Brazilian energy matrix has driven the mining industry to a leading role in the path towards decarbonization. This leading role is the result of innovative strategies such as the one proposed by Aggreko, a world leader in energy solutions, which encourages the adoption of hybrid approaches to minimize costs and emissions in mining in Brazil.
Aggreko and the energy transition
At the recent event “UK & Brazil – Partners in Energy”, which took place at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro, Aggreko was present to discuss the opportunities and challenges in the process of energy transition and decarbonization. The event, in its 10th edition, brought together professionals and experts from the sector to discuss innovations, technology exchange, sustainability and the joint development of advanced energy solutions.
The company shared insights into sustainable energy solutions for the mining industry, suggesting the application of hybrid technologies to efficiently and cost-effectively achieve decarbonization in Brazil.

Brazil's energy matrix is mostly composed of renewable sources, constituting 85% of the total, compared to the world average of 27%. Such a scenario places the mining industries in a prominent position in the search for innovative solutions for decarbonization.
Energy challenges in mining
Elizangela Santana, Aggreko's Business Development Manager for the Mining Industry, highlighted during the event the relevance of hybrid power plants, energy storage systems in batteries and a conscious energy culture. Santana stressed that the mining industry is at a crucial stage, with the opportunity to play a significant role in realizing sustainability, especially through decarbonisation and the supply of essential raw materials for the energy transition.
Participants had the chance to understand how lithium-ion batteries can be integrated into various energy sources, such as solar photovoltaics, biofuels and wind energy, ensuring reliability, efficiency and sustainability in energy supply.
Aggreko towards sustainable innovation
Aggreko remains steadfast in its commitment to providing sustainable and innovative energy solutions for the mining industry, supporting decarbonization and energy transition with efficient and reliable alternatives. “We are ready to support Brazilian mining companies in their journey towards a more sustainable and efficient future”, emphasized Elizangela.
An example of Aggreko's contribution in Latin America is the Salares Norte project in Chile, where a unique technology provides 24,6 MW of hybrid energy for the Salares Norte open pit gold mine, located at over 4.500 meters of altitude. Due to its remote location, the experts chose to supply 9,9 MW of solar PV and 14,7 MW of diesel to ensure adequate performance at high altitudes.
