Entering a master’s degree in mathematics recognized by MEC at no cost is a rare and highly sought-after opportunity. The National Access Exam (ENA 2026) is now open for enrollment and ensures admission to the Profmat, Professional Master’s Degree in Mathematics in National Network, which arrives at a new edition with 1,797 free slots distributed throughout Brazil, at partner public and private institutions of the program.

Profmat is a free course of stricto sensu postgraduate education, coordinated by the Brazilian Society of Mathematics (SBM) and funded by Capes.

Free Courses Offered by MEC

Profmat does not divide into different specializations. It is structured as a single course of master’s degree in mathematics aimed at Basic Education, with an emphasis on fundamental content such as algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, and logical reasoning, always articulated to teaching practice.

According to the notice, 1,797 slots are available for enrollment in March 2026. They are distributed among more than 70 federal universities, state universities, federal institutes, and even associated private institutions.

Among the campuses are Federal University of Acre (UFAC), Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), University of Brasília (UnB), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and several others spread across all states.

The priority is for public school teachers, but up to 30% of the slots may be filled by private school teachers, if there are remaining openings.

How the MEC Selection Process Works

The National Access Exam will take place on November 1, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM, with 30 objective multiple-choice questions.

The syllabus covers essential mathematics topics, such as first and second degree equations, progressions, trigonometry, statistics, probability, and logical reasoning.

According to the national coordinator of Profmat, Prof. Walcy Santos, the exam seeks to “evaluate not only technical capacity but the way teachers apply that knowledge in the context of the classroom.”

Classification will be by score, with separate lists for public school teachers (lists 1 and 2) and private school teachers (list 3). There is also the possibility of quotas, according to the regulations of each associated institution.

Requirements to Participate

To enroll, you must have a bachelor’s degree recognized by MEC in any area, provided that the candidate works as a mathematics teacher in Basic Education, whether in public or private networks.

During registration, proof of teaching activity will be required with an official statement from the school or pay stub.

Additionally, those who are approved must have the availability to attend in-person classes and basic access to digital resources to follow eventual complementary activities.

Exam: November 1, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM
Official Answer Key: by November 3, 2025
Individual Scores: by November 7, 2025
Final Result: by November 19, 2025
Registration (1st call – public network): by December 3, 2025
Registration (2nd call – public and private networks): by December 22, 2025

Enrollment and Recognized Certificate

Enrollment must be done on the website www.profmat-sbm.org.br by September 30, 2025, upon payment of a fee of R$ 90.00. The selection guarantees access to a free course, with national validity and a master’s certificate recognized by MEC.
