Mysterious Structure 1,600 Meters Deep Draws Attention in New Discovery by Scientists.

A submerged structure 500 meters long, located off the coast of Alaska, may be an underwater volcano. The revelation is part of a new discovery by scientists during an expedition conducted by the United States Coast Guard. Preliminary data indicate that the site is emitting gas, but the phenomenon remains a mystery.

Scientists collaborating with the U.S. Coast Guard announced a new discovery by scientists: a submerged structure 1,600 meters deep, considered impressive. The discovery was made aboard the icebreaker “Healy,” during a mission to map the ocean floor.

Initial analyses suggest that the formation may be an underwater volcano, but researchers remain cautious. According to a statement from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the structure was found in a little-explored area. “Although analysis is ongoing, these findings provide insight into what may exist beneath the ocean’s surface, much of which remains unknown in this region,” says NOAA.

No Immediate Risk to Navigation

Another relevant point is that the alleged underwater volcano is in a sufficiently deep location, meaning it does not pose a risk to vessels navigating the area.

While exciting, the new discovery by scientists is not unanimous within the scientific community. Some experts emphasize the need for further studies and point out that the information released so far is limited.

The mission is still ongoing and promises to bring more details about this mysterious structure and the potential to be an underwater volcano. The ocean floor, even in explored regions, continues to hold fascinating secrets waiting for explanation.
