End of an era: The Honda Civic, once a dream car for Brazilian drivers, sells 7 units in 2026 even with a 184 hp hybrid engine and fuel consumption of up to 18.4 km/l; understand the reason.
But is it worth investing in this car today?
A Hatch That Was Born as Astra
According to the portal Quatro Rodas, the Chevrolet Vectra GT arrived in Brazil in 2007 with the promise of being a modern option within the automaker’s lineup.
Despite the name “Vectra,” it was actually a European Astra disguised to meet Chevrolet’s market strategy.
As a result, it featured sophisticated design elements and a robust mechanical set, inherited from the Brazilian Astra.
The model was launched with two versions: GT and GT-X, both equipped with a 2.0 flex engine of 128/121 hp, the same as the Astra and Zafira. Among the highlights were dual airbags, digital air conditioning, alarm, electric windows, and GPS.
The GT-X version went further, bringing 17-inch wheels, cruise control, rain sensor, and shark-fin antenna.
In 2009, the lineup received a slight facelift, adopting new bumpers, redesigned headlights, and a modernized front grille.
The engine was also updated to 140/133 hp, which improved performance and reduced consumption a bit.
Attractive Price and High Consumption
Today, it is possible to find a used Vectra GT for less than R$ 40 thousand, depending on the year and condition. According to the FIPE Table, values vary:
- 2008: R$ 29,638
- 2009: R$ 32,572
- 2010: R$ 34,481
- 2011: R$ 36,595
However, there are cases of well-maintained models being advertised for higher prices, especially those with low mileage and up-to-date maintenance.
On the other hand, one of the model’s weaknesses is the high fuel consumption. In tests, it recorded 5.6 km/l in the city and 8.7 km/l on the highway with ethanol.
After the improvements in 2009, these numbers increased to 6.8 km/l in the city and 9.9 km/l on the highway.
Main Problems of the Vectra GT
Although it is a reliable car, some chronic problems affect the Vectra GT. Before buying, be aware of these issues:
- Steering Gear: noises may indicate play, requiring replacement of the assembly.
- Ignition: the key may get stuck in the cylinder, requiring replacement.
- Clutch: tends to exhibit early vibrations, even with low mileage.
- Power Windows: electrical failures may cause the windows to open by themselves.
- Fog Lights: failure in the electric module can cause involuntary lighting and battery discharge.
Another problem reported by owners is the chronic vibration of the alternator pulley in automatic models. Chevrolet has never issued an official solution for this defect.
Owners’ and Experts’ Opinions
“The Vectra GT is comfortable, powerful, and very stable. The automatic transmission is excellent.” – Wilson Romano Calil Filho, doctor.
“The car has a design rated 10, with several features like Bluetooth and rain sensor.” – Raphael Curvo, geneticist.
“The plastic finish could be better, and the engine loses power at some RPMs.” – José Ricardo Silveira, student.
Is It Worth Buying a Used Vectra GT?
If you are looking for a spacious, well-equipped, and affordable mid-size hatchback, the Vectra GT can be a good choice. Its biggest attraction is the cost-effectiveness, offering a reliable mechanical set and good comfort features.
However, the high fuel consumption and some mechanical problems should be considered before the purchase.
Tip: Before closing the deal, conduct a detailed inspection, checking maintenance history and possible recurring defects.
