Duplication Of Highway Generated Outrage! Residents Protest Against The Closure Of Accesses, Which Harms Commerce And Mobility. Moreover, The Highway Remains Without Lighting, Increasing The Risk Of Accidents. Government Promises Solutions, But Delayed Works Generate Anger!
Infrastructure works are essential to improve urban and intercity mobility, but they do not always fully meet the needs of the local population.
A recent case in Roraima illustrates this dilemma well: residents of neighborhoods located along the RR-205, the highway that connects Boa Vista to Alto Alegre, organized a protest against the impacts caused by the duplication of the section.
Lack Of Access Generates Dissatisfaction
According to the portal Folha BV, the main complaint from residents is the closure of essential accesses, harming both mobility and local commerce as well as the provision of public services.

During the demonstration held last Sunday (9), participants highlighted that the work did not include a sufficient number of turnarounds and roundabouts, making transit in the area more complex.
According to the protesters, the duplication of approximately eight kilometers of the highway included only two turnarounds.
One is near the Vila Jardim residential area in the Cidade Satélite neighborhood, and the other is near the Caburaí allotment in the Murilo Teixeira neighborhood.
Both are considered insufficient to meet the demands of the local population.
Government Responds To Complaints
Residents say they have already tried to contact the Government of Roraima to discuss solutions but have not received a satisfactory response.
In a statement, the Department of Infrastructure (Seinf) clarified that there are four return points along the duplicated section, with two at the ends — at the roundabouts of the Ring Road and the Cidade Satélite neighborhood — and two in between, at the entrance of the Caburaí lot and on the access road to the Vila Jardim Residential area.
The Seinf also emphasized that the distance between the return points and the closure of accesses is standard in duplication works in urban sections in Boa Vista and other cities.
According to the department, this standardization follows technical regulations and seeks to ensure safety and fluidity in traffic, especially for trucks and large vehicles.

Lighting And Safety Remain Problems
In addition to the issue of turnarounds, safety and lighting on the RR-205 are also among the main complaints from residents.
The lack of an adequate public lighting system makes the highway dangerous for drivers and pedestrians alike who need to cross the road.
In March 2024, the Seinf stated that the installation of LED lighting would begin after the completion of the highway duplication.
The initial forecast was for the service to be completed in April of the same year. However, nearly a year later, the section remains without lighting.
In January 2025, the state government declared that the company responsible for installing the lighting would be hired within that month and that work would begin in February.
However, to date, the works have not commenced.
The Seinf was questioned about the reason for the delay and clarified that the bidding process for the service had been completed.
However, other companies that participated in the bidding filed administrative appeals requesting the annulment of the result.
According to the department, the issuance of the service order depends on the assessment of these appeals, and the expectation is that the installation of the LED lighting will start later this month.

Highway Brought Improvements And Impacts
The duplication of the RR-205 brought structural improvements to the highway but also directly impacted the lives of local residents.
The lack of access and public lighting are the main points of dissatisfaction, which led to the recent protest.
With promises of ongoing solutions, residents are left waiting for the implementation of improvements.
However, the situation remains an example of how large works can bring unexpected challenges to local communities.
