Oil Workers Organize Strike at Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) of Petrobras Due to Deaths Caused by Covid-19 in Recent Days

Oil workers decide to strike at Repar! According to the complaint document filed last Saturday (04/03) by leaders of Sindipetro Paraná and Santa Catarina, the management of Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) does not comply with state decree number 7,145 of March 2021, maintaining the maintenance shutdown and putting lives at risk, even after three workers from the unit died from Covid-19.

According to Alexandro Guilherme Jorge, president of Sindipetro Paraná and Santa Catarina, there is evidence of contamination inside the facilities. “A sanitary strike should take place if there is no significant change in the company’s stance regarding the conditions of the facilities and care for the people who circulate at Repar.”

The new state government decree (7230/21) that suspends activities that cause gatherings in enclosed spaces for corporate reasons, as is the case at Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), was published on April 3 and came into effect last Sunday (04/04).

Petrobras Plans to Include an Additional 2,000 Workers for Maintenance Shutdown Activity at Repar, and Oil Workers Anticipate Strike

The refinery management plans to add around two thousand workers to the unit’s routine starting April 12, to continue the schedule of the massive industrial procedure initiated on March 29.

According to the oil workers’ union, the pre-shutdown services currently underway involve about 800 professionals in maintenance workshops and other shared environments. Thus, gatherings are inevitable in industrial areas, scaffolding, equipment, and workshops.

The victims are workers Carlos Eduardo Correa dos Santos (Cadu), 45 years old, who passed away on April 1; Marcos da Silva, 39 years old, on March 25; and Rodrigo de Souza Germano, 36 years old, on March 22.
