A series of family challenges, marked by health problems, financial difficulties, and the loss of a loved one, ended up driving the creation of three businesses run by members of the same family in Bataguassu, Mato Grosso do Sul. The journey involves a beauty consultant, a hairdresser, and a seamstress who found in entrepreneurship an alternative to rebuild their routine, increase income, and create new perspectives for the future.

The transformation began to gain momentum at the beginning of 2024, when Jaqueline Marques, 45, decided to invest in training to improve the management of her direct sales beauty products business. The knowledge acquired went beyond the limits of her own business and began to benefit other family members.

Over ten months, the entrepreneur saw her monthly revenue jump from R$ 1,500 to R$ 6,000, a result that served as a starting point for broader changes at home.

Mother and daughters found in knowledge an opportunity for change

Instead of applying the learnings only to her commercial operation, Jaqueline decided to share the new strategies with her sister, Esther Dariene, 43. Owner of a beauty salon, Esther had accumulated 15 years of professional experience but faced difficulties related to the financial management of the business.

The lack of planning and more detailed control of accounts put the continuity of activities at risk. With administrative reorganization, the scenario began to change. Currently, the salon records monthly revenue between R$ 3,500 and R$ 4,000, while the average amount spent by clients on hair services reached R$ 200.

The professional managed to significantly expand her client base and made an investment of R$ 10,000 to open a new space. The next step involves expanding the services offered, including procedures focused on facial aesthetics and possible partnerships with professionals linked to the wellness segment.

Commenting on the change, Esther highlighted the importance of better understanding the financial reality of the business. “I did everything automatically and didn’t realize how much my work was growing. I learned to control my money, understand my numbers, and believe in my potential as an entrepreneur,” she said.

New project restored purpose to the family matriarch

While the daughters strengthened their businesses, a new concern arose at home. After undergoing spinal surgery in 2022, Gizelda Fatima Marques, 62, had to stop working as a domestic worker, a profession that supported the family for years.

The sudden change in routine, combined with the grief over the loss of her grandson, contributed to a period of discouragement and isolation. It was in this context that the opportunity arose to participate in a sustainable sewing project supported by Bracell.

The initiative offers training, equipment, and materials for producing new items from the reuse of fabrics and other waste.

The activity developed by the group involves transforming discarded materials into new products.

Among the reused items are:

  • Used jeans;
  • Industrial raffia bags;
  • Repurposed fabrics for new accessories.

After the material is separated, a process occurs that includes disassembly, cleaning, and adaptation of the pieces for the manufacture of new products. The goods produced are sold at fairs and partner establishments.

Besides generating income, the project allowed Gizelda to return to performing a productive activity without the need for initial investment. “I thought that at this point in my life I would no longer be useful. With the project, I become useful again. The income is increasing and we are managing to produce more,” she declared.

Over time, the three activities began to function in an integrated manner. The beauty consultancy run by Jaqueline found space in an old area of the residence that was previously used for baking.

The place was renovated and adapted to receive clients interested in makeup and skincare. The business started with an investment of R$ 2,000 in products and evolved into a direct sales model without intermediaries.

Family cooperation also yielded practical results. When the sewing group needed to produce images to promote the products, Jaqueline herself was responsible for the makeup of the artisans who participated in the photographs. This interaction ended up strengthening the collaboration between the different enterprises.

Future plans involve expanding activities

The development of the three businesses even changed the daily dynamics of the family. Topics related to sales, financial organization, logistics, and professional training became part of daily conversations, replacing subjects that previously dominated the household routine.

Now, the plans are focused on growing the operations. While Gizelda seeks to make the process of reusing materials used in sewing more efficient, the daughters are working on structuring a model that allows for further integration of the services offered by the beauty consultancy and the salon.

The goal is to expand the reach of services and establish the enterprises as local references, transforming a story marked by losses and difficulties into a family project of income generation and professional development.
