Volkswagen recently announced the VW Tera to the automotive market, a name familiar in computing and a strategic choice to reinforce its significance within the German brand. In computing, 1 terabyte equals 1 trillion bytes, suggesting greatness and innovation. In this article, we will detail everything that is known about Volkswagen’s new SUV in Brazil. The VW Tera is the latest news from Volkswagen Brazil in the compact SUV segment, with an initial price expected to be around R$ 100 thousand.
New VW Tera Will Have A Turbo Engine Of Up To 116 Hp
For the VW Tera to achieve significant sales volume and become a popular model in Brazil, Volkswagen decided to follow the successful formula of the Gol, starting with production at the factory in Taubaté (SP). To achieve this goal, the new SUV will be equipped with a 1.0 flex engine in two configurations.
The entry-level version will have a naturally aspirated engine with 84 hp, while the more powerful option will feature a 1.0 turbo engine capable of generating up to 116 hp. The transmission will be a five-speed manual in the aspirated version and can be either a six-speed manual or automatic in the turbo version. Although it uses engines already known in the Volkswagen lineup, the VW Tera receives updates to meet the demands of the modern market, offering greater efficiency and fuel economy.

Additionally, the model adopts the MQB A0 modular platform, the same used in models like Polo, Nivus, T-Cross and Skoda Fabia. This platform allows for high structural rigidity and better dynamic performance, in addition to providing more safety and comfort for the driver and passengers.
Body elements, such as the inner door panels and parts of the structure, have also been utilized from other Volkswagen models. However, the external design was developed from scratch by a team led by José Carlos Pavone, ensuring an exclusive look for the new SUV.
Key Design Differentiators Of The New Volkswagen SUV
According to the president of Volkswagen Brazil, Ciro Possobom, 81% of the components of the VW Tera will be produced in Brazil, reinforcing the nationalization of the project. Unlike other Volkswagen models that share similar traits, the VW Tera debuts a new visual identity for the brand in the country.

The front design features a smaller, nearly closed grille, accompanied by a large air intake in the bumper, highlighted by a visual element reminiscent of a hook in the body color.
The sides feature striking creases below the waistline and in the lower door area, giving a robust and dynamic look. At the rear, a glossy black bar connects the taillights, a trend present in various contemporary models in the segment.
Interior And Features Of The New VW Tera
Inside, the finish maintains a predominance of rigid plastics, but Volkswagen has implemented different textures to enhance the perception of quality. This approach aims to improve the user experience, making the environment more sophisticated without significantly raising production costs.
The top-of-the-line version, called High, with the optional package Outfit – already present in the Nivus – includes ambient LED lighting in the dashboard, a novelty for Volkswagen’s domestic models. In addition, the list of features includes items found in higher category vehicles, such as an electrochromatic rearview mirror, rain sensor, and lane departure warning with steering correction.
Other expected features include a modern multimedia system, digital instrument panel, and advanced driver-assistance systems.
With these features, the VW Tera promises to position itself as a competitive entry-level SUV, combining technology, efficiency, and an exclusive design, seeking to repeat the historic success of the Gol in the Brazilian market.
