The Nuclear Reactor-Powered Ship Project Is A Form Of Carbonization Of The Atmosphere Thought Of By Both Companies, Hyundai And Microsoft
For the first time, Hyundai presented a specific ship project powered by a modular reactor (SMR) produced by Microsoft. The announcement was made by Hyundai Group, specifically by its holding Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, where the project considers a carbon-free nuclear reactor-powered ship concept, according to the website Portos e Navios.
The Microsoft ship project together with Hyundai is at the basic phase, featuring a vessel powered by a 240-megawatt SMR and 4 sets of 60 megawatts. This was the first time that Hyundai disclosed the project in detail.
The Nuclear Reactor Project Of Hyundai’s Ship
The reactor, which has an electrical power of nearly 300 megawatts, will be placed at the bottom of the ship, where it will produce carbon-free fuel (like hydrogen), which will be situated above the buoyancy medium of Hyundai’s ship.

If the hydrogen produced by Hyundai’s ship is offered at a lower price, this could boost competitiveness among ecologically friendly ships produced by Koreans, according to experts. Hyundai’s goal by 2025 is to develop a perfect hydrogen-powered engine.
And Microsoft In The Project?
Microsoft invested US$ 30 million in TerraPower in 2022, a company producing sustainable nuclear reactors developed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Microsoft’s plan is to build an SMR in Wyoming, USA, by 2030.
In addition, Samsung Heavy Industries developed a project for an electric barge for a compact molten salt reactor, a type of SMR, receiving certification from the American Bureau of Shipping.
More About Ships: For The First Time, A School Ship Arrives In ES Boarding Oceanography Students From UFES To Learn More About ROVs
On Thursday (9), a unique experience began for the students of the Oceanography course at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes). The students will be onboard until the 16th of this month on the school ship Ciências do Mar III, and will be able to take advantage of the available infrastructure to learn about ROVs. For this, the Floating Teaching Laboratory will make its first trip to Espírito Santo. Check out this article in full by clicking herei.
