Nestlé Factory Expansion in Montes Claros Strengthens National Production
The Minas Gerais facility is one of five factories dedicated to Nescafé Dolce Gusto production worldwide and the only one in the Americas. With the new investment, the factory expansion will increase its production capacity by 40%, consolidating Montes Claros as a strategic hub for the brand’s growth in Brazil and abroad.
The investment will allow Nestlé to meet the growing demand for coffee and multi-beverage capsules, which has seen double-digit growth in Brazil over the past two years, according to the company itself. The factory will be equipped with new technologies and production lines to allow for greater efficiency and quality.
Details of the Expansion and Modernization Project
The factory expansion will be carried out in phases between 2025 and 2028, with operations set to start in the second half of 2026. The project includes:
- Installation of two new production lines for coffee and multi-beverage capsules (such as cappuccino and latte)
- Construction of a space for packaging soluble coffee sachets
- Modernization of equipment and automation of processes
- Physical expansion of 7,000 m²
- Areas dedicated to palletizing and storing raw materials
Nestlé will also invest in logistics and distribution systems to ensure that products reach Brazilian and international consumers quickly.
Job Creation and Socioeconomic Impact in Montes Claros
The creation of jobs is one of the project’s pillars. The first phase of the expansion is expected to generate around 1,000 job positions, both direct and indirect, significantly contributing to the local economy. The expectation is that new opportunities will arise throughout the project’s execution, up to the first quarter of 2028.
In addition, the factory promotes inclusion and diversity: 57% of employees are women, and it was the first Nestlé unit in Brazil to have a female director. The company also maintains professional training programs and partnerships with educational institutions in the region to develop skilled labor.
This positive impact extends to the supply chain, transportation, commerce, and services, generating a multiplier effect in the economies of Montes Claros and neighboring municipalities.
Sustainability as a Pillar of the Nestlé Factory Expansion
The Montes Claros factory is a global reference in sustainable practices. Since its inauguration in 2015, the unit has stood out for:
- Neutral Environmental Impact in three dimensions: water, waste, and carbon emissions
- Exclusive use of water supplied by the neighboring Leite Moça plant, without resorting to natural sources
- Destination of 100% of waste for recycling, composting, or co-processing
- Equipment with low emissions of polluting gases
These actions reinforce Nestlé’s commitment to sustainability and the mitigation of climate change, aligning with global goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The new phase of the factory will maintain these standards, focusing on energy efficiency and a circular economy.
Growth History of Nestlé in Montes Claros
The Nescafé Dolce Gusto factory in Montes Claros has already undergone two previous expansions:
- In 2018, with the installation of new production lines for first-generation capsules
- In 2022, focusing on the production of compostable Dolce Gusto NEO capsules
These advancements demonstrate the unit’s ability to adapt to consumer trends and environmental requirements, maintaining its forefront role in innovation in the beverage sector. The factory is also recognized for its operational excellence and for integrating cutting-edge technologies into its production processes.
With the new investment, Nestlé reinforces its confidence in the region and in the growth potential of the Brazilian specialty coffee and capsule beverage market.
