Increase in Bicycle Sales Drives Local Businesses and the Launch of MobilityCast, an Interview Channel on Sustainable Practices.
The city of Niterói has stood out as a model of sustainable mobility in the country, with innovative initiatives and community engagement. The 150% increase in bicycle sales in just two months reflects the growing interest of residents in environmentally friendly transportation alternatives. This change in behavior is directly linked to the desire to adopt a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Additionally, the city has invested in sustainable actions to promote green urban mobility, such as the launch of MobilityCast, an interview channel that fosters important discussions on the topic. These initiatives align with municipal efforts to encourage small and medium enterprises to achieve carbon neutrality, contributing to the building of a more eco-friendly city committed to the environment.

The 17-meter, 20-ton monster that the US built in 1939 to dominate Antarctica — and that could only move by driving in reverse: the Snow Cruiser cost US$150,000 and was abandoned forever.
This favorable environment has been crucial for the 150% increase in bicycle sales over the past two months, according to Davi Souza, a mobility sustainability expert and director of Ventane Motors, a local company that stands out in the electric bicycles and motorcycles market.
Capitalizing on this promising landscape for the development of sustainable businesses, Souza launched MobilityCast, an initiative aimed at promoting discussions with industry experts. The program featured Luciano Paez, a geography professor and the first Climate Secretary in Niterói, recognized as a specialist in mobility sustainability.
Paez emphasized the importance of a diversified approach to urban mobility, advocating for the integration of different modes of transportation. He highlighted that a city promotes sustainability through various means, from expanding green spaces to raising environmental awareness. In urban mobility, it is crucial to consider the ideal mode of transportation for each situation.
The program addressed topics such as carbon neutrality and profitability for companies committed to sustainable practices. The Municipal Initiative for Certification of Good Practices in Carbon Compensation offers opportunities for businesses to engage and demonstrate their commitment to mitigating climate change.
Davi Souza stressed the importance of engaging small and medium enterprises in this process. He pointed out that carbon neutrality should not be limited to large companies, as SMEs also play a vital role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and can financially benefit from sustainable actions.
In the previous year, Ventane Motors acquired 10 carbon credits, equivalent to over a year of operations, highlighting the potential for profitability and sustainability of the business. With innovative initiatives like MobilityCast and effective public policies, Niterói continues to stand out as a model city in sustainable mobility, inspiring other regions to follow its example.
