New Bridge Will Connect Two States, Facilitating Ecotourism and Preservation in the Pantanal. With an Estimated Cost of R$ 60 Million, the Project Will Generate an Ecological and Economic Corridor That Will Attract Tourists and Strengthen Biodiversity.
Among wild landscapes and natural riches, a new and impressive bridge is about to redefine ecotourism between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.
The strategic project, with an estimated value between R$ 50 and R$ 60 million, is a long-awaited milestone that will finally connect the two Brazilian wetlands, facilitating access and providing an ecological corridor that will benefit local economies and sustainable tourism.
The Connection of the Wetlands: The Beginning of a Milestone for Ecotourism
According to the director of Projects and Budgets at Agesul, Magno Mendes, the new bridge will be the first physical link between the wetlands of Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso.

The construction is expected to connect the famous Transpantaneira Road (MT) to MS-214 (MS), creating an unprecedented access route between the municipalities of Corumbá in Mato Grosso do Sul and Porto Jofre in Mato Grosso.
In addition to facilitating tourism, the project creates a crucial ecological route that promises to encourage environmental preservation and expand sustainable tourism activities, benefiting local fauna and flora.
According to Mendes, after analyzing three possible routes, the most viable path connects the end of Transpantaneira to MS-214.
The project, which is about 300 meters long, will provide easier access for visitors, expanding the reach of ecotourism in the region.
This project represents a unique opportunity to promote sustainable development and ensure the future of the Pantanal, preserving its biodiversity and fostering the local economy.
The Costs and Execution of the Project
The budget and costs of the work will be equally divided between Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, according to an already signed cooperation agreement.
The bridge project will be developed by the government of Mato Grosso, while the execution will involve cooperation from both states.
The deputy secretary of roadworks in Mato Grosso, Nivia Calzolari, states that after the technical visit for the route selection, the Sinfra team will need to develop the project for bidding.
“The bridge will be a milestone in the connectivity of the two states and will significantly boost ecological tourism in the region,” emphasizes Rudi Fiorese, the director of Road Infrastructure at Seilog.
Ecotourism in the Pantanal: Potential and Expansion
The site where the bridge will be built is surrounded by properties and areas for ecological tourism.
On the Mato Grosso side, the region known as Porto Jofre, on the banks of the São Lourenço River, already offers activities such as jaguar watching, attracting visitors from Brazil and abroad during the high season, which runs from May to November.
Eduardo Blanco, manager of the Porto Jofre Pantanal Lodge, details that the local tourism infrastructure has approximately 10 large boats and 60 small boats, in addition to 200 pilots operating in about 30 properties.
“Most tourists arrive by car along the Transpantaneira, a dirt road that stretches for 150 km from Cuiabá to Porto Jofre,” says Blanco.
The new bridge will facilitate access and could attract an even larger audience, promoting a more inclusive and sustainable development of the region.
Ecology and Preservation: A Sustainable Corridor
In addition to tourism, the construction of the bridge promises to strengthen the role of the wetlands in environmental preservation, establishing an ecological corridor that will benefit local biodiversity.
Visitors will be able to explore trails and observe species such as jaguars, capybaras, and rare birds, as well as enjoy the unique natural landscapes of the Pantanal.
For the governments of the states, the project represents more than a simple connection between two points: it is an opportunity to promote sustainable development and preserve one of the richest and most diverse biomes in Brazil.
Vision for the Future of the Pantanal
This innovative project symbolizes the vision for the future of the governments of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, by joining efforts to boost ecotourism and ensure sustainable development in the region.
According to Secretary Nivia Calzolari, the Pantanal region is one of the richest in ecology and tourism, with the potential to be one of the most attractive destinations for national and international ecotourism.
The cooperation between the two states is an example of how joint initiatives can drive sustainable development, benefiting local populations and protecting the environment.
This infrastructure milestone represents a promising future for the Pantanal, ensuring accessibility and economic growth without compromising the ecosystem.
