New Nissan Kicks in Brazil: goodbye naturally aspirated, hello turbo engine with CVT
The big news of new Nissan Kicks in Brazil is under the hood. For the first time, the SUV will have a 1.0 turbo flex engine. It will be the same engine that equips the Renault Kardian, but produced by Nissan in Resende, and may have different numbers (in the Kardian it is 125 hp / 22,4 kgfm). The current 1.6 naturally aspirated engine will not be offered in the new generation.
Another important point is the transmission: it will be an automatic CVT. Sources and the specialized press have confirmed that Nissan will not use the automated dual-clutch transmission in the Kicks, opting for the CVT, which is more reliable and well-accepted in Brazil. There is no option for a manual transmission. The e-Power hybrid technology is, for now, not in the plans for the Brazilian Kicks.
Kicks gets new external and internal design
O new Nissan Kicks in Brazil has been completely redesigned. The front features a wide grille with horizontal lines that blend into the eyes. All versions will have LED panels. The paintwork with a different color roof (B-Ton) will continue to be available. At the rear, the lights have been redesigned, invade the sides and are connected by a horizontal bar.
The interior is also completely new. The highlight is the dashboard with two integrated 12,3-inch screens (instruments and multimedia). The central console has been redesigned and includes an electronic parking brake and auto hold function. The finish is apparently of better quality, with the use of soft-touch materials.
Bigger and more technological
O new Nissan Kicks in Brazil It has become larger than the current generation. The length has increased by 6 cm, reaching 4,37 meters. The wheelbase has grown by 4 cm, to 2,66 meters. The width is 1,80 m (+4 cm) and the height, 1,63 m (+2 cm). The trunk will also be larger than the current 432 liters; it is estimated to be between 450 and 470 liters for the Brazilian standard.
In terms of technology, the SUV brings important advances. From the entry-level version, it will have 6 airbags, adaptive cruise control (ACC) and automatic emergency braking (AEB). It will keep the 360º camera in the more expensive versions. It will have a driving mode selector and a new multimedia center with wireless mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The rear suspension can be multilink (like in the US) or keep the torsion beam (not yet confirmed for Brazil).
Versions and prices
According to press reports, the new Nissan Kicks in Brazil will have four versions: Sense, Advance, Exclusive and Platinum. The current model will continue to be sold. It will be renamed to “Kicks Play” and will already have two versions, with prices between R$ 116 thousand and R$ 140 thousand.
Therefore, it is estimated that the new Nissan Kicks in Brazil start at R$150. The top-of-the-line version (Platinum), which is better equipped, should cost around R$190. Nissan has historically positioned the Kicks competitively in relation to its direct rivals.
