In New Interview, Eike Batista Resumed the Story of the “Largest Income Tax in Brazil”, Confirming Precisely the Amount He Had Already Mentioned Since 2010: R$ 654.850.658,34 — An Amount So High That, According to Him, It Had to Be Registered in São Paulo.
During an interview with Irmãos Dias Podcast, Eike Batista recalls an episode that, according to him, illustrates the scale of his business at its peak: the payment of a Gigantic Income Tax. In his words, it was the “largest income tax in Brazil at the time.”
He details amounts and even a logistical curiosity: there were US$ 450 million paid as an individual. The amount, he claims, was so high that “it didn’t fit in the system in Rio de Janeiro”, and therefore the entry had to be made in São Paulo, “it was missing a zero.”
To illustrate the impact, Eike compares it to current amounts, saying that “today it would be 2 billion and 300… reais” — reinforcing the idea of the magnitude of the payment.

“I paid the largest income tax in Brazil at the time: 450 million dollars.
It didn’t fit in the system in Rio, it had to come to São Paulo for the system to register. It was missing a zero.”
In 2010, Eike Batista had already publicly mentioned the episode of the record income tax payment, which at the time gained wide coverage in the economic press.
In interviews and reports, the businessman stated that he had spent about R$ 670 million to the tax authorities, referring to the base year of 2009 — an amount highlighted by the magazine Exame as one of the largest ever paid by an individual in the country.
Almost fifteen years later, during the new podcast, Eike returned to the topic and revealed for the first time the exact amount of the transaction: R$ 654.850.658,34.
The amount confirms, with a very close figure, the story he had been telling since 2010 about the million-dollar tax, solidifying one of the most emblematic episodes of his business career.
