Could one imagine the traditional Serra Gaúcha as Brazil’s future automotive hub, capable of attracting Formula 1 and transforming local tourism?
This is the promise of Dumondo, an automotive and tourist complex that aims to revolutionize the economy and event landscape in Brazil.
With a billion-dollar investment and the creation of thousands of jobs, the project aims to elevate São Francisco de Paula, a town just a few kilometers from Gramado, to the status of a luxury tourism and motorsports center.

Billion-Dollar Investment and Job Creation
The Dumondo project, named in honor of the aviator and motorsport pioneer in Brazil, Santos Dumont, requires an investment exceeding R$ 3 billion.
The venture is expected to generate around 30,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout its construction and operation, according to recent information released by the developers.
In addition to generating job opportunities, the complex is being designed to attract major events, such as national and international motorsport competitions.
The ambition is clear: in addition to a racetrack, Dumondo will feature a luxury hotel, shopping center, airport for executive flights, residential condominiums with a golf course, university, and hospital.
The robust infrastructure is seen as a significant potential to transform Serra Gaúcha into a global tourist destination.
Dumondo: A Tribute to Santos Dumont and Motorsport
According to former driver and entrepreneur Rodrigo Stehling, one of the leading figures behind the project, Dumondo will be one of the largest infrastructure investments in Brazil.
In a recent interview on the podcast “Nossa Economia” from GZH, Stehling gave the project an 8 out of 10 chance of success, indicating that the licensing phase will begin in 2025.
If everything goes as planned, the racetrack should be ready by 2027, already with confirmed events.
“In September, we will have important meetings with representatives connected to Formula 1 and Ferrari,” Stehling stated, suggesting the possibility of bringing major international events to Dumondo, including the famous Stock Car, which is set to take place at the site for five consecutive years.
According to him, the project’s goal is to create a racetrack of international standards, capable of even hosting Formula 1 races in the future.
Location Strategy and Luxurious Infrastructure
The location of Dumondo has been carefully planned to maximize its potential to attract tourists and investments.
São Francisco de Paula, where the complex will be built, is located near Gramado, one of the most visited cities in the country.
The easy access and infrastructure of the region are expected to contribute to the popularity of Dumondo, which will combine luxury and technology to become an icon in Brazil and Latin America.
In addition to a racetrack for competitions, the complex will offer a diverse range of luxury entertainment and tourism services.
The idea is to make Dumondo not only a venue for racing but also a center for leisure and business.
“Our expectation is that the project will attract tourists of all profiles, especially those interested in luxury tourism and motorsports,” declared Stehling.
Unprecedented Economic Impact in Serra Gaúcha
With an expected completion timeline of up to 10 years, the complex is set to have a significant economic impact in the region, generating jobs and boosting local tourism.
The project leaders believe that Dumondo will help establish Serra Gaúcha as a destination for high-standard events and tourism.
According to the developers, visitors will not be limited to racing enthusiasts but will also include tourists seeking luxury infrastructure and diverse leisure activities.
This perspective makes São Francisco de Paula a strategic point.
The city, which has a strong cultural connection to motorsport and is recognized for its natural beauty and tourist infrastructure, could see a substantial increase in visitor numbers, boosting the local economy.
Challenges and Expectations for the Future of Dumondo
Despite the optimism, Dumondo still faces challenges to materialize. The first major step will be the licensing request, scheduled for 2025.
After this, construction will officially begin, with an expected total completion in up to a decade.
Until then, negotiations and planning remain intense, especially in the initial stages, which will determine the project’s feasibility and scope.
Could Dumondo Replace Interlagos?
The possibility of attracting Formula 1 to Serra Gaúcha is the most ambitious aspect of the project.
The planned infrastructure positions Dumondo as an alternative for large-scale events in Brazil, but will it be able to displace the traditional Interlagos racetrack?
This is an open question, but there is great optimism among investors who view the complex as an opportunity to transform tourism and motorsports in the country.
After all, does the new Dumondo racetrack, with all its luxurious and modern infrastructure, have the potential to replace Interlagos as the main stage for Formula 1 in Brazil? The answer to this question only time will tell, but the project is already sparking the curiosity of many.
