The Technological Advancement In Recent Years Decreased The Production Cost Of Brazilian Pre-Salt, Now It Is Coveted Worldwide

The topic of the moment today is the “pre-salt” in the main media outlets in Brazil and around the world, and today, the major media outlets finally report excellent news: Twelve years after its discovery, the Brazilian PRE-SALT has become the most attractive oil frontier in the world. The high exploration costs at a depth of about 7,000 meters seemed to be the great challenge.

Producing In The Pre-Salt Today Is Viable, Even If The Barrel Price Falls To US$35

Over the years, experts already assure that production in the PRE-SALT is economically viable even if the barrel price falls to US$ 35. Today, the price is around US$ 78.
Claudio Makarovsky, president of Abespetro, guarantees that “the key word is technology,” which has evolved significantly over recent years. “The cost of drilling a well has dropped from US$ 100 million to US$ 40 million,” he says.

Makarovsky also adds that “factories that used to receive one order per year are now receiving orders for 100 compressors and 40 turbines.” Obviously, Petrobras will be the biggest beneficiary of this sharp decrease in costs, as all it needed in the PRE-SALT was to “produce more, spending less,” which the experts in this report assure is already happening.
