The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated that the PPSA (Pre-Salt Petroleum SA) will begin the construction and transportation of natural gas from the pre-salt to the Brazilian coast. The ultimate goal is to reduce Brazil’s need to import raw materials for producing inputs such as fertilizers.

At the close of the CNPE (National Energy Policy Council) meeting on Friday (17), he announced that the Civil House is formulating a provisional measure to increase the supply of natural gas in the country; however, he did not specify the role of the State in this endeavor.

It is expected that the opportunities for the construction of pipelines will increase thanks to the PPSA. The goal is to prevent Brazil from being a prisoner of the oil companies, both Petrobras and other national oil companies, the minister stated at the end of the launch of the Renewable Complex Paraíba by Neoenergia, in Santa Luzia.

Although President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was present at the event, he left without addressing the media.
As there is currently no gas infrastructure to transport the gas from the pre-salt to the Brazilian coast, about half of it must be reinjected.

About 25 billion cubic meters were reinjected in 2022, according to the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels). Even so, it was stated at another event that Brazil needs to license new exploratory frontiers because the pre-salt is running out this week.

Furthermore, the minister stated that he invited Bruno Eustáquio, former executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, to be his chief of staff or parliamentary advisor. Even now, he has not shown any signs of response.
