Brazil Is One of the Main Agricultural Producers in South America and a Major Exporter of Food to the World.
In this sense, Qatar plays an important role in Brazil’s trade relationship, being considered a strategic partner in the supply of fertilizers and natural gas.
The trade relations between the two countries are constantly strengthening, with various exports and imports. Rafael Solimeo, head of the International Advisory of the Arab Chamber, emphasized that “Brazil exported US$ 411.24 million to Qatar in 2022, with an increase of 44.66% compared to the previous year,” adding that Qatar’s exports to Brazil totaled US$ 1.208 billion, a 53.12% expansion.
Qatar as a Supplier of Fertilizers and Natural Gas to Brazil
With a trade flow of over US$ 1.6 billion, the commercial ties between the two nations are complementary and enable the development of a series of cooperations. Furthermore, Qatar plays a vital role in the supply of natural gas to Brazil, powering the thermoelectric plants in the country, which are activated when the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants do not have enough water to meet electricity demand.

According to Rafael Solimeo, “Qatar’s natural gas not only guarantees energy supply to the Brazilian economy but also avoids a series of environmental damages that could be caused if diesel were used instead.”
Brazil and Qatar: Complementary Cooperation in Food and Energy Production
Brazil, on the other hand, is an important supplier of food to Qatar, especially animal protein. Therefore, the Latin American country continues to play a key role in ensuring Qatar’s food security in recent decades. This is done to benefit the bilateral ties between the two countries, as both sides seek to advance in the production of fertilizers and food.
Last month, Rafael Solimeo visited Qatar to showcase Brazilian startups and promote the business activities and proposals initiated by the leaders. He remarked that last year’s mega sports event, the FIFA World Cup 2022, had a positive impact by positioning the country as one of the main investment destinations for international organizations, including Brazilian citizens, to explore and invest.
Continuous Strengthening of Trade Ties Between Brazil and Qatar
“From the examples of Brazilian companies that we know, this process of discovering Qatar as a strategic market for investments in the Gulf is just beginning. Yet, it is already proving promising, as we already have companies succeeding in Qatar, which is very important for attracting future investments,” Solimeo added.
In summary, the trade relationship between Brazil and Qatar is beneficial for both countries, contributing to economic growth, food security, and energy supply for the Brazilian economy, while also preventing environmental damage. Both countries hope to continue strengthening their ties and collaborations in the commercial sphere.
