New platforms will be chartered by Petrobras with the aim of replacing the old fleet and negotiating more competitive prices, one hour or another this moment would come and it could be good for some operators and bad for others. Until January of next year, nothing more and nothing 14 rigs will have their contracts expired, out of a total of 23 in activities in the country at the moment, not counting those who are abroad. The expectation is that Petrobras will choose to obtain a little more than half of the volume of current rigs, bearing in mind that not so much current business due to many multinationals are also exploring oil assets here. To save money, the state-owned company plans to reduce the fleet to between 15 and 18 rigs.

A Petrobras has taken stricter measures to hire new rigs, crossing out companies that have a history of many fatal accidents from the list and their list in Brazil or in other countries, some of which include: Petroserv, Transocean and Ensco. Among the companies invited to participate in the bids are Maersk, Rowan, Ocean Rig Diamond, Queiroz Galvão and Seadrill. According to specialists, Queiros Galvão can take advantage of having an anchoring rig in the country and it can be an additional saving because it will avoid displacement taxes.

Two Seadrill rigs contracted by Petrobras will be replaced, the West Carina and West Tellus that are already to win this year and next year.
