Petrobras Begins Drilling in the Sergipe Basin, Where Recent Discoveries in the Region Indicated Equivalent to One-Third of Current Brazilian Production
The Sergipe Basin remains the focus of the Oil and Gas market. Petrobras announced that it has started the drilling of a new offshore well in the area.
The curiosity about this fact arises from the Brazilian oil company selling 35% of its stake in the area, which is 75%. The block is technically named BM-SEAL-4.
The drilling is being carried out by the Petrobras 10000 drillship, which is operated by Transocean. The well called BRSA-1367-SES is in a water depth of 2,625 meters.

Center of Attention
The Sergipe-Alagoas Basin had already been “front-page news” after Petrobras recently announced its largest discovery since the rich pre-salt reserves were revealed in 2006.
The reserves are estimated at about 20 million m³ per day of natural gas, which represents about one-third of current Brazilian production.
After the discovery announcement, Petrobras is conducting the Discovery Assessment Plan (PAD) in the Sergipe Basin. The goal is to identify the full productive potential of the oil and natural gas reserves.
The next step, which should take place later this year, is the long-duration test (TLD) in the Farfan field area.
The Long-Duration Test (TLD) is conducted to generate data that will assist in the detailed studies of the reservoir rock and the asset fluids.
Farfan is among the six fields discovered in deep waters in the Sergipe Basin, the others being: Cumbe, Barra, Muriú, Moita Bonita, and Poço Verde.
After the tests, Petrobras expects the discoveries in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin to have oil of excellent quality and a huge amount of natural gas, contributing to the government’s goal of reducing the cost of this type of fuel.
