Petrobras Is Expected to Officially Announce the Suspension of COMPERJ Works for at Least Two Months Soon

Petrobras may officially announce at any moment the suspension of all works at COMPERJ for at least two months. Regarding the employees working on the construction at the petrochemical complex, the company has already held a meeting with the municipal authorities of Itaboraí and with the Health Surveillance.

So far, only 30% of the activities are being carried out, and the other 70% are halted. Among the stalled works are the construction of the Gas Treatment Unit (UPGN) by the Chinese company Kerui, the utility works being carried out by a consortium led by Toyo Setal, and the Flare works being conducted by MIP.

The active workers are set to be placed on collective vacation to avoid coronavirus contamination. Reports from some employees indicate that the conditions in which they were kept were precarious, with potential contamination in accommodations and transportation to the works.

Responsible for Comperj, Petrobras assured that it had already been taking steps to reduce the number of workers at the construction sites since the 16th, when a public health emergency was declared in the state.

Among the measures, the state-owned company mentioned the daily monitoring of all workers’ temperatures and the staggering of shifts, as well as adjustments in the cafeteria and transportation. The lack of safety conditions also prompted a public action initiated by councilman Jones Moura, President of the Public Safety Commission of the City Council of Rio.
