Petrobras Is Investing in Its Fleet of Vessels, Authorizing Hiring Processes to Meet the Growing Demand in the Offshore Sector.
The Brazilian state giant Petrobras announced last Thursday, (03/28), the authorization of hiring processes for support vessels for logistics in offshore exploration and production. This measure aims to meet both short- and long-term demand, focusing on efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Focusing on efficiency and sustainability, Petrobras seeks to modernize its exploration and production logistics, boosting the Brazilian industry and ensuring effective operations in the future.
Opportunities from Petrobras for the Brazilian Offshore Industry
Petrobras’ decision marks the beginning of a series of contracts aligned with the Strategic Plan of the company.
-
While old buildings are often abandoned, a city in the Netherlands transformed a 1932 locomotive shed into a library with giant curtains and preserved railway memory.
-
A giant 3,000-ton machine had to be transported nearly 100 km in Australia because, even though it could move on its own, it might destroy its own components along the way.
-
A port loader larger than many buildings was shipped whole on a vessel, weighed 1,060 tons, was 84.65 meters long, and arrived almost ready to operate.
-
With a length of 397 meters, the giant ship carries up to 22,000 tons of pipes and assembles a continuous metal line in the ocean that becomes a gas pipeline and oil pipeline on the seabed.
In the coming years, it is estimated that about 200 support vessels will be contracted between 2024 and 2028.
These vessels will serve both to replace existing contracts and to increase the fleet.
Among the opportunities, the construction of up to 38 new vessels stands out, focusing on modern and sustainable technological solutions.
The first bidding process anticipates the hiring of 12 support vessels of the PSV type.
Diversification of Petrobras’ Fleet
Additionally, Petrobras also plans to hire cabotage vessels, FPSOs, vessels for underwater activities and wells, as well as the decommissioning of platforms.
The company estimates that by 2028, 14 new platform ships will be implemented, creating opportunities for the Brazilian offshore industry.
Currently, Petrobras is conducting six hiring processes for platform ships of the FPSO type, both for chartering and for its own units.
Impact on the Economy and Jobs
Petrobras’ total investment in its activities, from 2024 to 2028, will be US$ 102 billion.
This amount is expected to generate 280,000 direct and indirect jobs per year. The national industry will be boosted by the company’s projects, which aim to strengthen offshore infrastructure.
