Know The Plant That Can Repel Cockroaches From Your Home Naturally. Simple, Effective Method Without Toxic Products

Cockroaches are an unwanted presence in many homes. They prefer damp, dark environments with easy access to food. Kitchens and bathrooms, therefore, are often the main targets. The problem goes beyond inconvenience: these insects can transmit diseases such as food poisoning and dysentery, through bacteria like Salmonella and Escherichia coli.

For those who prefer natural methods, one alternative stands out: lavender. Known for its pleasant aroma, the plant also has properties that help to effectively repel cockroaches.

How Lavender Works Against Cockroaches

Biologist Nathália Coelho from the Catholic University of Brasília explains that the most common species in Brazilian homes are the German cockroach (Blattella germanica) and the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana).

In an interview with the portal Metrópoles, she emphasizes that lavender releases volatile compounds with a repellent effect. This makes the environment less attractive to these insects.

One of the simplest ways is to use lavender essential oil. Just dilute the product in water and apply it with a spray bottle in dark areas, corners, or near drains. The scent acts as an aromatic barrier that interferes with the behavior of cockroaches, without harming the environment.

Another simple way is to place sachets with dried lavender flowers in cabinets and pantries. This technique keeps spaces free from the scent that attracts cockroaches, helping to keep them away.

It is also possible to add a few drops of the oil to the cleaning water of the house, reinforcing the protection during daily chores.

Lavender Prevents But Does Not Solve Infestations

Despite its effectiveness, Nathália Coelho warns: lavender is not enough to eliminate established infestations. In these cases, it is necessary to resort to stronger and more comprehensive pest control methods. Lavender works best as a preventive measure, preventing insects from establishing themselves inside the house.

In addition to lavender, citronella is also a plant with repellent properties. It can be used similarly, helping with the natural control of cockroaches. But the central point of the fight remains hygiene in the environment.

Simple Measures to Avoid Cockroaches

Avoiding food scraps scattered around the house, repairing leaks, and keeping everything clean are essential actions. Constant cleaning cuts off access to food and water, two factors that easily attract cockroaches.

Other important actions include sealing cracks and crevices, storing food in closed containers, and keeping drains well-sealed. These measures reduce the chances of entry and permanence of insects.

Lavender, therefore, comes as a natural reinforcement in this process. Easy to use, accessible, and with a pleasant aroma, it helps to keep the environment less attractive to cockroaches. And, combined with a routine of cleaning and organization, it can make a difference in daily life.

For those seeking a natural solution, lavender is an important ally. And although it does not resolve serious cases, it is effective for those looking to prevent the problem before it arises.
