BYD, Ford's new rival, actually launched a electric car considered a clone of a popular Ford car, in China. This is the BYD Yuan Pro electric compact SUV similar to the Ecosport. The American brand's model was discontinued in the Brazilian automotive market in 2021.
According to information, the model in question has actually been sold by the brand since 2016. However, the look that is most similar to that of the Ecosport came after undergoing its second facelift.
Boasting a sportier, off-road identity, the Ecosport-like BYD Yuan Pro employs LED headlights similar to those on Ford's popular car, but with a simpler grille and different bumper molding. As it is a more affordable model, it does not carry fog lights.
Ford took no legal action against BYD
The model that will actually be sold on the national market has a different look than the first version and uses the Dolphin platform. Returning to the BYD Yuan Pro, similar to the first generation Ecosport, as previously mentioned, its front end has a different look, which we are already used to in BYDs.
At the rear, the similarities are so evident that, at first glance, the old BYD appears to be the EcoSport itself. When you see one in person, it's difficult to know at first glance whether you're looking at a BYD or Ford's popular car. Lanterns, C-pillars, rear windows, wheels and even the spare tire installed on the trunk lid. Everything was clearly inspired by Ford SUV.
The shape of the body, higher in the rear region, also makes the old BYD Yuan Pro similar to the Ecosport sold in Brazil until 2021. Ironically, the Ford SUV was produced in Camaçari (BA), in the factory that today belongs to BYD. Despite the obvious similarity, Ford did not take any legal action against the Chinese company.

Currently, the new BYD Yuan Pro has a design that does not resemble Ford's popular car. Its look follows the BYD language, with interconnected taillights and no spare wheel hanging from the trunk lid.
The compact SUV is 4,30 m long, 1,83 m wide, 1,67 m high and has a wheelbase of 2,62 m. Therefore, the model is slightly larger than a Volkswagen T-Cross, but much smaller than the Yuan Plus.
BYD's compact SUV is equipped with an electric motor that delivers 177 horsepower. With this engine, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7,9 seconds. The battery is 45 kWh and guarantees a range of 401 km using the generous Chinese cycle (CLTC). To give you an idea, the Yuan Up, entry-level version, delivers 95 hp of power and around 300 km of declared autonomy.
