The world's first flying motorcycle, the revolutionary XTURISMO, has just been launched in Japan and is available for around R$3 million. Will this innovation transform the future of transportation?
A revolution in urban mobility has been announced in Japan: the world's first flying motorcycle has just been officially launched on the market. A XTURISM, a 3,6 meter long vehicle inspired by the Star Wars universe, is available for around US$555 (approximately R$3 million). Developed by the aircraft company AERWINS, the novelty promises to transform the concept of personal transport, offering a futuristic and impressive experience.
Flying motorcycle can reach up to 100 km/h
The 300 kg vehicle, which was a finalist in the Edison awards from last year, it is powered by two large central rotors powered by a 228-horsepower Kawasaki gas engine. The flying motorcycle also has an electric battery that powers four fans on the edges, ensuring stability during flight.
Announced as a true realization of the dream of air mobility, XTURISMO can reach speeds between 80 and 100 km/h. The official description doesn't skimp on promises: “Bring science fiction to real life and dominate the skies with the world's first flying motorcycle. Expand your ideas about transportation, experience the world like never before. Pioneer the next generation of transportation. XTURISMO was developed with this in mind. A new journey begins.”

Visually, the world's first flying motorcycle bears a resemblance to the speeder bikes used by the Galactic Empire to chase Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) through the forests of the planet Endor in the sixth installment of the franchise, “Return of the Jedi ” from 1983.
In June 2022, AERWINS announced the global launch of the XTURISMO Limited Edition at December's Top Marques Monaco conference, and its performance at America's Detroit Auto Show in September was received around the world, according to brand representatives who stated that they are “ currently receiving orders and inquiries from all over the world.”
Unfortunately, “Star Wars” fans dreaming of their own intergalactic chases will have to wait a little longer. For now, the flying bike is only available in Japan and limited to testing on closed race tracks.
XTURISMO can be used to help in rescue operations
Far beyond use by sportspeople, fans and enthusiasts, the world's first flying motorcycle, considered one of the 19 most incredible scientific innovations of 2022 by BBC Science, has the potential to be used in rescue operations, disaster assistance and infrastructure inspections, according to its creators. A promotional video for the XTURISMO Limited Edition shows the vehicle hovering over the waters of Lake Yamanaka, with the iconic Mount Fuji in the background.
According to the brand's representatives in a statement, by publishing this video, the expectation is that viewers will be moved by the natural beauty of Yamanashi and feel the anticipation and excitement of future mobility that can be achieved through technological capabilities.
It is important to mention that ALI Technologies Inc., based in Tokyo, went public last year through a merger with the company Pono Capital Corp. Under the terms of the agreement, ALI Technologies will become a wholly owned unit of its US arm, Awerwins Technologies. Its market value is expected to be at least US$600 million, in line with its target last year, despite a market sell-off. Its ticker will be AWIN, according to reports.
Pono Capital shares rose 24% following the Bloomberg report, the biggest gain since the SPAC went public in 2021. A representative for the company said that while a SPAC listing is in the works, details still need to be ironed out. ALI Technologies initially considered an initial public offering in Japan, but decided to list on the Nasdaq through a SPAC deal to speed up the process, as a domestic listing could take much longer.
Other companies work on flying motorcycles
In addition to the world's first flying motorcycle from AERWINS, another company developed the Jetpack Speeder, a flying motorcycle model that began to be sold in EUA for R$380 before it was even ready. The prototypes shown indicate two forms of movement for this model.
In the case of the Speeder, propulsion is provided by jet engines, while other models, such as the Dubai police flying motorcycle, use propellers. One point that has not yet been defined is what these flying motorcycles will be like in the future, whether they will have effective wheels and will be able to have hybrid use, flying and running on the roads, as some flying cars do.
It is also unclear what the regulations will be for these vehicles to be able to travel. In the case of this model, for example, the pilot will have to undergo training and have a special license. At the moment there are only projections of how the Speeder will fly, however, the model was the first to actually start being sold. In a pre-sale system, the vehicle will have a maximum speed of 240 km/h and can reach a height of 4.500 meters.
Its price is US$380, equivalent to R$1,5 million, requiring a deposit of US$10 to reserve one of the 20 units that will be manufactured. Made by an American company specializing in “jetpacks”, the motorcycle also uses these propellers to take off. Another model of flying motorcycle was being tested by Dubai police to monitor the streets.
Called the Hoversurf S3, the model is developed by Russians who are now based in California. Weighing around 114 kg, lighter than a Honda CG 160, the electric model It flies up to 5 meters high and reaches a maximum speed of 96km/h. The flying vehicle makes most of its movements autonomously, that is, it can land, take off and stay still in the air. When taking command, the pilot uses a joystick to control it.

In fiction everything is perfect but reality is harsh, cruel and relentless. It does not admit failures.
