The Brazilian Navy approved the Port of Santos to receive 366-meter vessels, which previously received 340-meter feathered vessels

The port of Santos was approved by the Brazilian Navy to receive 366-meter ships, making it the largest complex to receive this type of vessel on the East Coast of South America. Homologation took place at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Santos, on the coast of the state of São Paulo. The Santos complex only received ships of up to 340 meters.

Check out today's other news:

Currently, the ships that the port of Santos can receive are up to 340 meters long and have a capacity of around 9.000 TEU. With the authorization, considering a container ship (new Panamax) with 366 meters in length and 52 meters in width, the capacity can be increased to 14.000 TEU.

Homologation process:

This process also involved the University of São Paulo (USP) and the State Pilotage, which studied and carried out maneuverability simulations, hydrodynamic interactions and berthing plans, which proved the viability of a ship of this size in the navigation channel.

The researchers considered the current channel depth of 15 meters and the future depth of 17 meters to be suitable for ships of less than 15.000 TEU. BTP (Brasil Terminal Portuário), DP World and Santos Brasil carried out studies on the maneuverability and viability of ships of this size arriving at their terminals.

Cargo handling:

SPA reported that the authorization expands Santos' role as a port hub in South America. According to the plan, the Santos port complex is already preparing for the expansion of container transport, foresees the expansion of the existing terminal and plans two other destinations, the right bank of the Saboó, one for port terminals and the other for the backport.
