The company stated that it will also invest R$ 800 million until next year and create more than a thousand job openings to meet the growth in orders. According to the company, Brazil became the world’s largest Mercedes-Benz truck market in 2020, accounting for 20% of the group’s sales. Total vehicle sales in the market last year were 84,650 units.

Mercedes-Benz stated that starting in 2021, the company will continue the modernization of the final assembly line (gearbox, engine, and axle) in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), in ABC Paulista, along with the development of services and products with connectivity and low-emission mobility technologies.

According to Deppen, president of Mercedes-Benz in Brazil, “We need to continue working on our competitiveness and we have a strong sustainability plan. These are the ingredients that define our plans for the future.”

“We cannot ignore the relevance of macroeconomic factors for transportation, but we are convinced that Brazil is a large market and we have a long history in the country. It is important to maintain the business plan and investments because we are convinced that there is a need for transportation. That is why we are here,” he said.
