Renewable Energy And Low-Carbon Hydrogen
Porto do Açu’s focus is not only on cargo transportation but on transforming the oil energy sector. At an event held in São Paulo, Zampronha presented the initiatives of the port for industrialization based on renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen. “Our strategy aligns with the largest global sustainability goals,” said the CEO. The port has already signed new contracts with global companies in sectors such as agribusiness and low-carbon industrialization, transforming the location into an energy innovation hub.
Infrastructure And Billion-Dollar Investments
With an area of 130 km² and 11 terminals, Porto do Açu is 100% private and is part of a large oil expansion project. Over the next 10 years, the port’s infrastructure will see an additional investment of R$ 22 billion, bringing the total of invested resources to R$ 42 billion. In 2023, Porto do Açu handled an impressive 84.6 million tons, a 27% increase from the previous year, solidifying its position as one of the largest ports in Brazil, responsible for 40% of the country’s oil exports.

The partnership with Norwegian company Fuella AS aims to produce up to 400 million tons of green ammonia per year, using water electrolysis to generate clean energy. This production will be directed to both the national and international markets, with flow through the port’s modern facilities.
