Alert! Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, and Many Other Brands Have Cars with Deadly Airbags: Check If Yours Is on the List and Protect Your Life Right Now!
Currently, 2.6 million vehicles in Brazil continue to operate with defective airbags from the supplier Takata, according to data from the National Consumer Secretary (Senacon). This number is alarming, as these safety devices, which should protect occupants, can become a fatal threat. The issue is related to the airbags’ inflators, which, when deployed, can explode and propel metal shrapnel at extremely high speeds, seriously injuring or even killing occupants.
A Global Problem with Impact in Brazil
The defect in Takata’s airbags is not exclusive to Brazil. It is estimated that, globally, about 100 million vehicles have been affected by the problem, with 5.9 million of these cars sold in Brazil. A recall was initiated about a decade ago to fix the defect, but so far, only 3.3 million vehicles in the country have undergone repairs.
Although the replacement of the airbag inflator is done free of charge, millions of vehicles remain at risk on Brazilian roads. The repair is essential to prevent defective airbags from causing fatal accidents, and the lack of adherence to the recall is a major concern for authorities and manufacturers.

Involved Manufacturers and Legal Measures
So far, 17 manufacturers selling vehicles in Brazil have conducted recalls related to these defective Takata airbags. Companies like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and BMW are among those that have taken steps to repair affected vehicles. However, the challenge is ensuring that all owners participate in the recall.
To encourage drivers to attend repairs, Brazilian legislation has established that vehicles with open recalls for more than a year cannot be licensed. This aims to increase owner participation and ensure that fewer vehicles on the road present the risk of defective airbags.
How to Check If Your Vehicle Is Involved in the Recall
Despite the efforts, many vehicle owners still have not realized the risk they run by not completing the recall. Therefore, it is important to check if your car is on the list of vehicles with defective airbags.
The inquiry can be made directly on the National Traffic Secretary (Senatran) website, on a page dedicated to this purpose. There, drivers can provide their vehicle’s chassis number and check if there is any open recall. Additionally, manufacturers offer their own tools on their official websites to facilitate this verification.
The Risk Continues
Although measures are being taken, the fact that millions of vehicles have still not been repaired reveals a dangerous gap in the safety of Brazilian drivers. The defect in Takata’s airbags, which has already resulted in deaths around the world, remains a concern. Therefore, it is crucial for owners to check if their vehicles are affected and take the necessary steps to ensure their safety and that of their passengers.
