Atlantic Nickel Concludes Embarkation for Europe and Has Already Surpassed 29 Thousand Tons of Ore Exported This Year
Salvador, April 14, 2022 – Atlantic Nickel, the only producer of sulfide nickel in Brazil, has completed its third shipment of ore for export this year in 2022. The cargo, with 10,185.8 tons of sulfide nickel concentrate, departed from the Port of Ilhéus (BA) on April 4, heading to Finland, in Europe. With this shipment, the Santa Rita Mine, located in the municipality of Itagibá, has surpassed 29 thousand tons sold this year. The first two shipments of 2022 were destined for Canada and China.
The sulfide nickel concentrate is a high-quality raw material and a fundamental component in the manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles. Globally, under increasing demand, it is one of the most versatile and resilient metals in nature, with crucial utility for building sustainable societies through clean energy generation, capable of ensuring a low-carbon future.
Since starting operations at the Santa Rita Mine in October 2019, Atlantic Nickel has maintained a commitment to work in favor of sustainable development, without losing sight of its goal of reaching maximum production potential. In 2021, the company ended the year with record operational and financial performance, after 11 shipments and 110,409.75 tons exported.

“Looking at what we have already achieved gives us even more energy to pursue the path of new accomplishments ahead of us. While we celebrate our growing results, we are also certain that we are fulfilling our primary commitment to sustainability. We operate an efficient production model that does not lose sight of the aim of promoting the socioeconomic development of Itagibá and the region,” concludes the General Operations Director, Ricardo Campos.

About Atlantic Nickel
The only producer of sulfide nickel in the country, Atlantic Nickel has been operating since October 2019 in the extraction of the ore essential for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries. More than 2,500 direct jobs have been generated by the business and R$ 151 million injected in purchases and contracts with suppliers in Bahia from 2018 to 2020.
The company’s projection is to double its production capacity, with the start of underground operations at the Santa Rita Mine, scheduled for 2028, which will extend the mine’s useful life from eight to 34 years (7 years of open-pit mining + 27 years of underground mining). According to the Preliminary Economic Assessment, about US$ 355 million is expected to be invested in the first five years of this new phase.
Furthermore, Atlantic Nickel is already celebrating the recent discovery of a new deposit with significant nickel resource potential just 26km away, and in the same geological belt as the Santa Rita Mine.
