The New Ford Escort Electric Is On Its Way To The International Market, Promising Up To 300 Horsepower And A Range Of 500 Km.

Ford is preparing an impactful launch that promises to shake up the market and the competition. After two decades, the brand is revitalizing its popular car in Brazil, bringing a remarkable innovation: an electric coupe-SUV. Expected to hit the market in 2024, this unique vehicle is already gaining gradual recognition and is affectionately nicknamed “New Ford Escort”.

Meet The New Electric Car From Ford

The prototype of the new Ford Escort was spotted testing with a final body a few days ago and now, projections with faithful details reveal how the final model will look. The renderings were published by the site Kolesa.ru and conceptualized from the recent sighting.

As noted, the new electric car from Ford will lean into the coupe style of the lines, and in the images, it is already possible to see the characteristic slope of the rear. At this point, some cutouts appear to have been inspired by the first generations of the Ford Escort. At the front, the LED light signature will be the same as hinted by the brand in teasers already released.

Structurally, the model will follow the recipe already seen in the Explorer EV presented in March 2023, meaning mechanics borrowed from Volkswagen and a body design that is typically Ford.

The platform will be the well-known MEB , and in terms of powertrain, numbers like 300 horsepower and up to 500 km of range. Media rumors also indicate that there will be rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions, along with DC fast charging that will enable a recharge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes.

Possible Names For The New Car From Ford

Currently referred to as the new Ford Escort or Sport Crossover, the new car from Ford may adopt the name Capri when it officially hits the market. This name is classic within the company and was used from 1969 to 1986 on various sports models.

Like the Explorer EV, from which it will be directly derived, the new car from Ford will have a commercial focus aimed at Europe and production concentrated in the Cologne factory in Germany.

The plant is the same one that has produced the compact Fiesta since 1979, officially discontinued on July 7, 2023. It is worth mentioning that currently, the Ford Escort is the name of the low-cost midsize sedan below the Focus in China, having more or less the same proposal as the last years of the Escort already under the presence of the Focus in the early 2000s. Although Ford may not have had the real intention to recreate the Ford Escort, at least the silhouette of what is being tested brings back good memories.

Discover The History Of The Ford Escort

Launched in 1983, the Ford Escort was the first global car from Ford to be sold in Brazil. When it hit the market, it was already in its third generation in Europe.

The Escort featured independent suspension on all four wheels, calibrated by Ford for the quality of Brazilian asphalt. It began being sold with transverse 1.3 and 1.6 engines from the CHT line in the simpler L and GL versions and in the more upscale Ghia.

The most well-known version of the Ford Escort, the sporty XR3, arrived in the same year as the rest of the lineup. It had an enhanced appearance with four fog lights, sport seats, a rear spoiler, headlight washers, a sunroof, and the charming four-leaf clover-style alloy wheels.
