Chevrolet Introduces A New Affordable Car, Set To Replace The Onix, Standing Out In The Market With Its Accessible Price Of Just R$ 48 Thousand.
Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors, stands out as one of the leading automakers in the Brazilian market. Its cars, known for their popularity and quality, often rank among the best-selling in the country. An example of this is the Chevrolet Onix, which has become one of the favorites of Brazilian consumers, consolidating Chevrolet’s position as a leading brand in the national automotive sector. Now it seems that it’s time for a new affordable car to come into the scene and the acclaimed Onix to phase out; check out the details of the new Chevrolet Monza.
Chevrolet Prepares New Affordable Car To Replace The Onix
According to media reports, in the Chinese market, the Chevrolet Onix Plus did not perform well, leading GM to seek a replacement that would appeal to drivers there. The new affordable car chosen was the Chevrolet Monza, which is offered as a compact midsize sedan and is positioned below the Chevrolet Malibu.
However, this model will not arrive here anytime soon, as it is slightly larger than the Onix Plus and it wouldn’t make sense to have both cars competing for the same consumer. The model features a light hybrid version with a 48-volt engine.

Dealerships in Brazil are starting to bet more on Chinese cars after seeing margins of R$ 80,000, lower initial investment, and a market that could gain 2,000 new stores.
In terms of design, the Chevrolet Monza closely resembles the Onix at the rear and when viewed from the front. However, its grille aligned with the headlights and shaped like an X reminds of the Seeker coupe SUV and the new Blazer, also manufactured in the Chinese market. The LED headlights are similar to those of the Cruze. The new Chevrolet Monza measures 4.66 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.64 meters. Inside, the new affordable car features a more modern design.
The sedan features a dual 10.25-inch screen layout integrated into the same frame for the instrument cluster and multimedia center, similar to the Chinese Tracker RS. It also includes a wireless charger for smartphones, a blind spot monitor, electronic parking brake, and external mirrors with defogger.
Monza Costs Only R$ 48 Thousand In Direct Conversion
To sell more in the Asian market and surpass the Onix, the new model does away with three-cylinder engines. In its simplest version, the new affordable car is equipped with a four-cylinder 1.5 engine producing 109 horsepower and 14.3 kgfm, which the Chinese are already accustomed to, as it equips other models from the brand. This engine option is available with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
With the 1.5 engine, the new affordable car replacing the Onix can reach 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds and achieves urban consumption of 17 km/l and highway consumption of 20 km/l in the Chinese cycle.
The second option is somewhat more modern and features a 1.3 turbo engine with light hybrid technology of 48V. In total, it delivers 163 horsepower and 23.4 kgfm at 1,800 rpm in this configuration, which receives a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Chevrolet claims that this option reaches 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and has urban consumption of 20 km/l and highway consumption of 20.9 km/l. Its price is one of the highlights, as converting it to real currency, the new affordable car costs only R$ 48 thousand.
Onix Remains The Best-Selling Car In Brazil
Although it is leaving the Chinese market, here the Onix Continues To Lead Chevrolet’s Sales. The brand recently launched a new version of the Onix, the Joy, which now features some mechanical improvements from the 2017 hatch lineup.
Even while maintaining the design and pre-facelift, the Chevrolet Onix Joy presents an improved mechanical set and offers excellent cost-benefit. The vehicle’s engine here is the same as the more expensive versions, the 1.0 SPE/4 with 80 horsepower and a maximum torque of 9.8 mkgf with ethanol.
