A Submarine Robot, Known as an ROV, Remotely Operated Equipment, Was Dragged by the Strong Undertow to Barra Nova Beach in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro.
The ROV appeared on site this Thursday, July 18, and caught the attention of passersby. The area needed to be cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and bathers who were taking risks on the beach to get close to the machine. According to the Saquarema City Hall, Petrobras was notified about the situation and contacted the company responsible for the equipment.
Vehicles like this are used at great depths and serve the purpose of supervising and assembling exploration and production equipment at significant depths.

In a statement, Petrobras said that the equipment belongs to DOF Subsea Brasil, which was not conducting operations for Petrobras at the time of the incident.
According to information, the ROV may belong to the vessel “Skandi Commander” and was conducting acceptance tests. The company recently signed a three-year project with Petrobras, and this vessel is included in the project.
In a statement, DOF Brasil informed that the equipment is installed aboard one of the company’s offshore support vessels and detached in the early evening of Tuesday, July 16, due to sea conditions in recent days.
“Even with unfavorable weather conditions, we started the search for the ROV immediately after the incident. Today (07/18), during operations, the ROV was found on Saquarema beach, RJ. The company has already mobilized resources and is removing the ROV from the beach,” concluded the communication.
At the beginning of Thursday night, the City Hall informed that the area had been closed for the removal of the equipment from the location.
