Schneider Electric contributes to the restoration of Notre-Dame with energy management, fire safety and project logistics.

In a world where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand, Schneider Electric stands out as a corporation that is transforming the future of mining. The company is not only leading advances in energy use, but is also at the forefront of automation and digitalization, which are key to modernizing operations in the mining sector. Since 2023, the company has been implementing innovative solutions that not only increase efficiency, but also significantly reduce the environmental impact.

Schneider Electric is a pioneer in providing advanced technologies that are crucial to the extractive industry. The company understands that mining needs to evolve to align with global sustainability requirements, and therefore dedicates its efforts to the energy transition and sustainable growth. By using its automation systems, companies within the mining sector can generate more with less, using resources more responsibly. In addition, Schneider Electric's focus on safety and efficiency has led to its global recognition in 2024 as a leading contributor to innovation in this area.

Automation and Innovation: The Key to a Sustainable Future

In early 2025, the corporation announced new projects focused on mineral exploration that promise to revolutionize the entire industry. The need to lead a digital era for mining operations is not limited to increasing productivity, but also to creating jobs and protecting the environment. Mineral exploration, according to reports, is on the rise with these new practices, confirming the forecasts of dizzying growth in the market. This success not only boosts the economy, but also promotes greener and more sustainable practices.

In addition to its work in the mining sector, Schneider Electric has been actively involved in historic projects, such as the monitoring of the electrical installations of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. During 2024, the company provided essential energy management and fire safety solutions that ensured the integrity and safety of the reconstruction works. These efforts underscore the company’s commitment to innovating not only in mining, but also in projects that have a cultural impact on our world.

Commitment to Sustainability and Global Security

With the energy transition underway, Schneider Electric continues to be an example of innovation, providing vital resources to critical sectors of the economy. Its dedication to providing cutting-edge automation and sustainable solutions has already positioned the company as a leader in the mining sector by 2025.

Schneider Electric Supports Notre-Dame Restoration

Schneider Electric, known globally for its leadership in the digital transformation of automation and energy management, has announced its significant contribution to the restoration of the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. Through significant donations, the company ensures the safety and monitoring of electrical installations of the famous monument.

Among the solutions provided by the corporation is the advanced Building Management (known as BMS), an innovative technology that allows the optimization of the cathedral's energy consumption. This system represents a major leap forward in incorporating contemporary innovations into a monument that is one of the greatest examples of medieval art and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1991.

Fire Response and Positive Impact of Contribution

On April 15, 2019, a devastating fire seriously damaged the cathedral’s structure, sparking an outpouring of international solidarity. Schneider Electric was one of the companies that quickly stepped up to help. Gilles Vermot Desroches, the company’s Director of Citizenship and Corporate Affairs, said it was natural for Schneider to support efforts in prestigious locations, as it has done at the historic Comédie-Française theater in Paris and the scientific station in Antarctica.

As part of this collaboration, Schneider Electric entered into a donation agreement, offering its know-how, products and solutions to ensure the continuity of the project. The company not only provided essential equipment, but also ensured the electrical safety of the site after the fire.

Advanced Technology in Electrical Management and Safety

Actively participating in the restoration, the company delivered crucial equipment such as high-voltage cells, transformers and electrical panels, as well as emergency lighting systems. These technological solutions are essential for the efficient and safe management of electrical installations, integrating an automatic control system with state-of-the-art sensors and controllers.

In addition, Schneider Electric is involved in the maintenance of the electrical distribution network, providing support from the development of engineering and studies to the commissioning and programming of newly installed systems. To ensure complete technical understanding, future operators are being trained by the company. After the fire, the cathedral’s old electrical network was rendered unusable, making this new facility vital for its reopening.

State-of-the-Art Fire Safety Solutions

To effectively address fire safety issues, the project team chose innovative solutions, including sophisticated protective devices such as the Acti9 Active AFDD and HeatTags sensors for continuous monitoring in electrical panels. These technologies ensure controlled operation of electrical installations, sending early warnings at the slightest sign of trouble.

The project faced considerable technical challenges, including the installation of a 3,2-tonne TRIHAL transformer, specially designed for the cathedral. It was transported with care and precision, requiring complex logistical planning. This was just one of the many obstacles overcome by the Schneider Electric team, which demonstrated resilience and innovation.

Logistical Challenges and Partnerships in Project Implementation

Furthermore, the assembly of the high-voltage substation in an underground cellar was a separate issue, which was solved with specialized equipment customized by the team. Realigning all these efforts required meticulous coordination, as explained by Cédric Larcher, regional manager responsible for controlling and monitoring operations at the site.

Around 60 company employees, from technicians to engineers, were heavily involved in the commissioning and operation of the new systems, contributing significantly to the technical training required for the project. This support included training local partners, who were essential to the success of the restoration effort.
