ENBPar President Announces Plan for Construction of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant in Angra dos Reis
Ney Zanella, ENBPar president, reveals that the construction of the fourth nuclear power plant in Angra dos Reis (RJ) and Brazil is being planned. Its completion is expected by 2032, according to an article from O Globo. The plant will be the next after Angra 1 and Angra 2 – which are in normal operation – and Angra 3 – which had its construction resumed this month and is expected to begin operations in 2027.
Why Was the Announcement of the Plans for the New Brazilian Nuclear Plant Made in Russia?
The president is in Sochi, Russia, to participate in the AtomExpo forum. According to Petronotícias, Zanella participated in the exhibition panel called “Nuclear Spring: Creating a Sustainable Future,” alongside Rosatom’s General Director, Alexey Likhachev, and representatives from the governments of Belarus, Turkey, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. There, the president of ENBPar revealed that the Brazilian government is planning a fourth nuclear power plant in Angra dos Reis (RJ).
The international AtomExpo Forum is the leading event in the global nuclear industry, showcasing the latest developments from companies in Russia and other countries in the energy and business sectors. There is no better place to discuss the current state of the nuclear industry and its future. The exhibition has been held annually since 2009 and is promoted by Rosatom – the Russian state-owned company that collaborates with Angra 3.

Could the Change of Governments in Brazil Hinder the Construction of the New Plant in Angra dos Reis?
In a debate with representatives from Belarus, Turkey, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and the state-owned Rosatom, Ney Zanella was asked about the direction that the plants would take following the recent elections in Brazil. As reported by O Globo, Zanella assured that despite the change of governments, the focus on the nuclear program has only increased with the plans for the construction of a fourth nuclear power plant in the country.
