Rare 10-Cent Coin Is Being Sold for Over R$ 300. Find Out If You Have One of These at Home and How It Could Be Worth a Fortune
A 10-cent coin, which you might have at home without knowing, may be worth more than R$ 300 in the collector’s market. This is the case of an old coin from 1995, created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Issued in a limited quantity of only 1 million units, this old coin has attracted the interest of many numismatists.

How to Identify the Old 10-Cent Coin
The old 10-cent coin is made of stainless steel and weighs 3.59 grams, according to numismatic expert André Rigue. To identify this rare old coin, simply observe the reverse side: the design of hands holding a plant sprout with branches is the main sign that you are facing a valuable item. “A coin in ‘mint condition,’ meaning without any signs of use, can reach up to R$ 350 among collectors,” says Rigue.

In addition to this old coin, other pieces have also stood out in the collectors’ market. The commemorative coins from the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, for example, are also very sought after. Although they are R$ 1 coins, some special editions can reach a value of R$ 300.
Rare Bills and Coins That Could Be Worth a Fortune
It is not just coins that can surprise in value. Rare bills also attract great interest. One example is a R$ 50 note that does not have the phrase “God be Praised.” This detail makes it extremely rare, with an estimated value between R$ 3,500 and R$ 4,000, depending on its condition. Another valuable bill is a R$ 5 note that, due to a small error, can be sold for up to R$ 400.
There is also the famous R$ 10 bill, with an asterisk in its serial number, which can reach up to R$ 4,000 in the collectors’ market. “Many think that the most valuable R$ 10 note is the plastic version, but some old models are even more sought after,” explains Rigue.
Even manufacturing errors can turn a coin into something highly desired. A curious example is the 50-cent coin that, due to an error, was printed as if it were a 5-cent coin, raising its value to up to R$ 1,800.
Whether you are a collector or just someone curious, it is worth checking if you have one of these treasures stored at home.
