A new solar plant, the result of a partnership between SPIC Brasil and Recurrent Energy, will be installed in Pernambuco, with millions in investment. The project will have the capacity to supply up to 140 thousand homes per year, marking a significant step in the expansion of solar energy in Brazil.
SPIC Brasil and Recurrent Energy, a company that makes up the Canadian Solar Group, announced on Monday (4) a new partnership involving an investment of approximately R$400 million in a new solar plant with more than 150 thousand solar panels, called Luiz Gonzaga, installed in the municipality of Terra Nova (PE), in which SPIC Brasil will have a 70% stake.
New solar plant in Pernambuco will produce enough energy to supply 140 homes per year
With 114 MWp and 166 solar panels, SPIC Brasil's project in Pernambuco has the capacity to supply around 140 homes. The new solar plant is expected to enter commercial operation later this month.
This is SPIC's third solar project in the country, whose entry into the segment took place with the Marangatu and Panati Complexes, in Brasileira (PI) and Jaguaretama (CE) respectively, inaugurated in June 2024.

According to the CEO of SPIC Brasil, Adriana Waltrick, this new investment in Pernambuco represents a continuation of its expansion in projects clean energy in the Brazilian Northeast, with the aim of forming a cluster and sharing synergies in the region.
The new solar plant Luiz Gonzaga complex has signed energy sales contracts totaling more than 90% of generation until 2033, part in the Regulated Market and part in the Free Energy Market. Waltrick states that it remains focused on quality growth, aiming to advance and provide agility in the energy transition agenda.

The SPIC Brasil complex obtained financing of R$170 million from BNB with a 24-year term. In Brazil, SPIC has invested more than R$14 billion in seven years of operation. In addition to the Marangatu, Panati and Luiz Gonzaga plants, the company currently has more than 1,7 GW under construction (participation in GNA II, in Porto do Açu) and other renewable projects planned.
Globally, SPIC is the largest solar power generator, with an installed capacity of over 70 GW, and considers Brazil to be its largest market outside of China. With the addition of the new solar plant, SPIC Brazil's installed capacity in the country reaches approximately 4 GW, with over 60% coming from renewable sources.
Recurrent Energy's general manager for Latin America, Gustavo Vajda, highlighted the company's commitment to contributing to the expansion of clean energy in Brazil and said the company is pleased to expand its partnership with SPIC Brasil.
These projects reinforce its commitment to expanding clean energy generation in Brazil, providing clean and sustainable energy solutions for the country. The expectation is to further contribute to the development of renewable energy and advance its mission to create a more sustainable future for all.
About SPIC Brasil's venture in Piauí
In June, the Marangatu Solar Complex was inaugurated in the municipality of Brasileira, a project by SPIC Brasil. It is a giant park, with the two stages totaling more than 700 MWp, further consolidating Piauí's leading role in the energy transition.
The newly opened park has the capacity to generate 446 MWp, enough to supply around 550 homes per year. According to the governor, the installation of the project exceeded expectations by generating more than 2 direct and indirect jobs, 80% of which are local workers.
According to the governor, the installation of this new plant will enable Piauí to attract this investment.green products industrys, starting with the production of green hydrogen, then moving on to the production of ammonia, methanol, green steel and green fertilizers.
