Subsea 7 Was The Big Winner Of A Turbulent Tender And The Vessel Will Operate In The Lapa Field, In The Pre-Salt Of Santos, For The French Total
A turbulent tender from the Oil Company Total has finally come to an end. Subsea 7 was declared the winner of the bidding process and will provide a PLSV vessel (a specialized vessel for laying subsea flexible lines) to carry out activities in the Lapa field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
The tender was supposed to finish last May, but the French Total recently made some important modifications to the contractual terms of the PLSV, reducing the proposed scope of work to meet its new requirements for the Lapa field, leading the company to request a new tender, prompting offshore service providers to present new commercial prices.

Subsea 7, McDermott International, Sapura Navegacao, DOF Subsea, and a consortium formed by TechnipFMC and Ocyan submitted proposals in the original tender for the PLSV contract for Lapa last November, but had to revise their proposals at Total’s request.
The change in the scope of the French oil company was due to Ibama’s refusal to issue a license for the installation of up to eight flexible pipes and associated subsea equipment in two separate campaigns.
Ibama only allowed Total to drill up to four wells in Lapa over the next five years, leading the French company to rethink its pipe-laying schedule.
Scope Of The PLSV
The PLSV will operate in the Lapa field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin; the chartered vessel will connect these wells to the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba, which belongs to Modec and has the capacity to produce 120,000 bopd and process 5 million m³/d of natural gas.
The Lapa field was acquired by Total from Petrobras in January 2018 for US$ 1.95 billion. As the majority stakeholder, holding 35%, Total operates the field, with partners Repsol-Sinopec, with 25%, and Petrobras with 10%.
